Heaven's Most Wanted:, external Rooney still remains England's best player. But am happy with the squad facing Costa Rica today and I'm sure England will win.

Soapy Suds:, external Lampard man of the match and Rooney and Gerrard to come on and score a couple each would put the cat among the pigeons.

Billy Mitchell:, external I wanna see us playing the ball faster, less touches and more chances. Oh and a bit of passion.

We're told it's nothing to do with bumblebees, it's just that there were a high number of young women posting their support for Mexico on Facebook, specifically mentioning Javier Hernandez after his late goal during his country's 3-1 win over Croatia.

  4. Neville: No scapegoats this timepublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 24 June 2014

Former England defender Phil Neville knows what it's like to be made a scapegoat in a major tournament for England. But the ex-Manchester United player says there is no-one to single out this time - and that can only be a good thing.

  5. King of the keepie-uppiepublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 24 June 2014

We know how good Alan Shearer's ball-juggling skills are thanks to BBC Sport's Mark Chapman's, external post on Vine., external

It seems, however, that the former England striker has some competition for his title as keepie-uppie king.

Lee in Portsmouth: Progress and looking forwards does not include Lampard in the team. Tonight's side is an end-of-tour school match, everyone gets to play. Expect to lose 3-0.

Will Lomas: Roy should be sacked if we don't win tonight. This is the World Cup and every game should be taken as seriously as the last.

JP Hamon-Cole:, external I wanna see more of Ross Barkley, he's been one of the best English players in Brazil. Dropping Rooney is a great shout.

Martyn Webb:, external England team for tonight is an insult to the competition. Only proves that Roy's first-choice team is not good enough.

Ben Matthews:, external Maybe string three passes together and have a few potshots from range. Then you can all go home to your mansions.

We're asking: What would you like to see from England against Costa Rica? Is a result more important than the performance? Will a victory go any way to easing the pain of the previous defeats?

  9. Brazil are shooting starspublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 24 June 2014

There's nothing quite as satisfying as tucking into some shooting accuracy statistics in the middle of the morning, so here we go...

Brazil's 4-1 triumph over Cameroon on Monday saw them leapfrog the Netherlands to the top of the charts with 69.7% shooting accuracy. Louis van Gaal's Netherlands are second with 67.6%, while Colombia are third with 60.0%

England are 18th with 40.7% accuracy from 27 shots. Never mind. At least they've taken part, and at least they're not Cameroon who are bottom of the pile with 13.8% accuracy. Surprisingly, Argentina are one place from bottom spot with 22.2%, but who needs shooting accuracy when you've got Lionel Messi?

Toffees midfielder Ross Barkley is currently part of the senior squad and defender John Stones, also 20, was named on the standby list.

Lee in Manchester: Please please please, just show some passion, exciting, attacking football and the future players have a go. I'd rather get beaten trying than lose playing backwards!

Kyle in London: Will someone remind Hodgson that this is NOT a friendly and respect the World Cup and the fans by at least playing a team who has played together before. He has to go. Bring G. Neville in, that way we have a young manager for a young squad.

David Wood: A win for England would be great. A win for Italy would be even better! Just to wipe that smug look off of Suarez's face!

Loukas P, external: England have to win in style with a superb performance, both result and performance are important! It's the best for the nation.

Ronan Reeves:, external Only losing will bring England right perspective. Victory may bring along false hope.

Allen Green:, external Like Lambert to get the whole of the second half, he deserves his moment in the sun. Sometimes sentiment and experiment go hand in hand.

  17. Brazil in numberspublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 24 June 2014

Brazil are through to the last 16 and will face Chile, a side coach Luiz Felipe Scolari would have preferred to avoid, with the Brazilian saying: "If I could choose I would have picked someone else." Although, we suspect, not the Netherlands.

But with Neymar in the side the Brazilians will always pose a threat as the Barcelona forward has now scored eight goals in his last six appearances for Brazil.

Indeed, Brazil struck more shots on target than any other team in Group A (23) and have lost just two of their past 20 World Cup matches, winning 16 and drawing twice.

  18. The World Cup's best substitute?published at 10:26 British Summer Time 24 June 2014

    Leroy FeyImage source, Getty Images

Who has made the greatest impact from the substitutes' bench at this World Cup?

Javier Hernandez came off the bench to score in Mexico's 3-1 win over Croatia, but it's the Netherlands' Leroy Fer who has scored the fastest goal by a substitute at this tournament, finding the net after 90 seconds of being introduced.

That's quick-fire striking. You can't even watch the World Cup's first 100 goals in 90 seconds...
