    Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel says his country should be proud of their World Cup achievements, external after their exit to France in the last-16.

    The African side progressed through a group containing Iran, Argentina and Bosnia, but exited the tournament as a result of two late French goals on Monday.

    "Honestly, I don't think that we should be feeling bad right now," says Chelsea's Mikel. "I think that we played really well from the start, right up until we conceded the opening goal."

    Germany's Toni Kroos is reportedly closing in on a move to European champions Real Madrid, says German broadcaster Sport1.

    The 24-year-old has rejected an offer to extend his contract at Bayern Munich and is said to have agreed personal terms with the Spanish side, leaving only a transfer fee to be negotiated.

    Kroos - who has been repeatedly inked with Manchester United - has completed more passes than any other player in the World Cup so far.

    The Dane, 50, has been out of a job since leaving Swansea in February, just a year after winning the Capital One Cup.

    The former Australia international, 41, headed to Stamford Bridge last summer on a free transfer from west London neighbours Fulham to offer back-up to Petr Cech.
