Murray Constable via text: Archie Gemmill's invididual goal for Scotland against the Netherlands must be up there. It was a great bit of skill to get past the Dutch defence before placing the ball into the corner of the net.

Archie's goal at the 1978 World Cup is certainly memorable. In fact, it's one of those that gets better with every viewing so let's use this as excuse to watch it again.

"I felt that Howard Webb got the handball decision with Hulk in Brazil's match with Chile absolutely spot on yesterday.

"It is a great decision but I don't see how Webb could see it from his position. He's got the decision right but he can't see it. He got lucky!"

South American football expert Tim Vickery: "There's no job in sport with the pressure of being a goalkeeper for Brazil during a World Cup.

"Often you don't have much to do for long periods but then you have to come up good. Julio Cesar made a vital mistake in 2010 but he came up trumps against Chile."

Lucas via text: Neymar deserves all the recognition he is getting but there is too much pressure on his shoulders. Teams target him to try and injure him and he will take too many kicks and blows to his body. He cannot take Brazil all the way poster boy or not.

Colombia's James RodriguezImage source, Getty Images

"James Rodriguez could easily pass for Cristiano Ronaldo's younger brother. He is clean-cut, respectful and was quietly spoken as he dealt with Colombia's adulation after the game.

"In the absence of the great goalscorer Radamel Falcao, cruelly deprived of this World Cup by injury, Rodriguez was left with a burden he has so far carried with ease."

Jimmy Wright:, external Michael Owen vs Argentina 1998 is my favourite World Cup goal. The touch to take it down, the weaving run and cool finish. Magic.

Ryan Torrance:, external Without a doubt it has to Giovanni van Bronckhorst's goal in 2010 against Uruguay.

Dean Wainwright:, external All this talk of great world cup goals lets not forget Michael Owen's solo goal against Argentina at France 98.

Former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Pat Bonner, who played at the 1990 and 1994 World Cups, on the wonder of Colombia's James Rodriguez:

"James Rodriguez is only young, but wow. Not just in this match, but in other games at this tournament, he's played exceptionally well.

"He's got great movement, he finds space, he's got great vision and technical skill. To be able to do what he did last night for his first goal was unbelievable. But it sums up what we look for in the World Cup, and he is one of the stars."

  10. England fan has piece of ear bitten offpublished at 08:44 British Summer Time 29 June 2014

An England football supporter had a piece of his ear bitten off by another England fan at the World Cup in Brazil, BBC News reports.

The assault happened during England's match against Uruguay in Sao Paulo on 19 June, British police deployed to the tournament have said.

Local officers started an investigation after the fan made a complaint but the assailant has not been identified.

Confirmation of the incident came after radio pundit Stan Collymore tweeted he had seen footage of a "fan attacked".

  11. Any hope of Rodriguez moving to the Premier League?published at 08:41 British Summer Time 29 June 2014

    BBC Radio 5 live
    World Cup breakfast

What chance one of Europe's giants, including a Premier League club, prising James Rodriguez away from Monaco? Very little at the moment, according to former Monaco chief executive Tor-Kristian Karlsen, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live:

"There were one or two raised eyebrows when Monaco paid so much money for him, but it's turning out to be a pretty good deal. I'd say he's approaching the level of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez. Monaco are under no financial pressure to sell, and from what I've heard from him, he's happy there. I imagine he will stay there for at least another season."

Derek in Writtle: Marco Tardelli in the 1982 Final is the best goal ever in anything. 15. Rodriguez wonder volleypublished at 08:05 British Summer Time 29 June 2014

    Gary Lineker

"It was quite an astonishing goal from James Rodriguez. Goal of the tournament so far. Rodriguez now has five goals, which was the winning total for the golden boot four years ago. Won't be enough at this World Cup."

Colombia's James Rodriguez's stunning volley against Uruguay could well end up being the goal of tournament.

Although Tim Cahill's effort for Australia against Netherlands and Robin van Persie's spectacular header for the Dutch in their 5-1 thrashing of Spain must be up there as well.

Rodriguez's goal also got us wondering where it would rank among the greatest World Cup goals of all time. Is it better than Diego Maradona's individual effort for Argentina against England in 1986? Up there with Carlos Alberto's superb strike for Brazil against Italy in the 1970 final?

So we want to know: What is the best World Cup goal of all time - and why? Don't just give us your favourite goal - we know you can do better than that. We want a reason why a particular goal stands out as well, please.

"If James Rodriguez had hinted at his potential greatness with goals against Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan in the group stage, this was the moment he joined those other perfect 10s in the World Cup - Messi and Neymar.

"He had a Colombian legend to live up to when he took on the mantle of the number 10 - the flamboyant Carlos 'El Pibe' Valderrama, he of the wild hair and glorious talent. No matter. 'El Nueve Pibe' - 'The New Kid' - had arrived."

  20. World class Rodriguezpublished at 07:30 British Summer Time 29 June 2014

Colombia's James RodriguezImage source, Getty Images

Former England defender and BBC Sport pundit Phil Neville reckons James Rodriguez's spectacular volley for Colombia against Uruguay is the best goal he's seen at the World Cup so far.

"James Rodriguez's goal is world class - the best of the tournament," Neville says.

"The look over the shoulder tells him he has time to turn. Paul Scholes and Xavi can do that, they have time to take in their surroundings. That awareness sets the best players apart.

"He's announced himself on the world stage. What I like about him is that he's always on the move and looking for space.

"He looks like the complete player. Tim Cahill is my best friend in football but I sway towards James Rodriguez for goal of the tournament."
