Manchester City now fully expect striker Alvaro Negredo to complete his loan move to Valencia before the deadline - a season-long loan with obligation to buy rather than an option.

Meanwhiel, Celtic are close to agreeing a year long loan deal for the Manchester City striker John Guidetti. The 22-year-old Swede spent last year on loan at Stoke. BBC Sport also understands the Scottish Champions could yet sign the Serbian striker Stefan Scepovic from Sporting Gijion. The 24-year-old had knocked back Celtic for FC Getafe but that deal now looks to be dead.

BBC World Service's Steve Crossman: "You have to love transfer deadline day.

"A couple of hours ago Milan were so close to signing Jonathan Biabiany that they posted a photo of him wearing a red and black scarf on their website. Now instead of buying a former Inter man, they're trying to steal someone else from the under the noses of their city rivals.

"Atlanta midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura looked set to be on his way to San Siro, and he still is, but it may well be Milan and not Inter that he joins.

"That will cause a chain reaction down the line and potentially stop Real Madrid signing Freddy Guarin from Inter after his move to Valencia broke down earlier."

BBC Radio 5 live football reporter John Southall: "I have just seen QPR owner Tony Fernandes and Fabio Borini is still in Liverpool. He wouldn't say what the hitch was although we believe it's over his wage demands.

"But Jermain Defoe could still happen. From what I understand he wants to come, it's whether Toronto will let him leave. In addition, Sandro is having a medical."

Jack Roberts in Southend-on-Sea: Arsenal start the transfer window strong and fall at the last hurdle. You want to be a champions league team then start buying like one. Welbeck isn't the answer!

Lee in Hackney: Can't anyone else see Wenger is awful. A window that's always supposed to difficult he says, but City, Chelsea and United all seem to sign their players without any difficulty? Please Arsene, go somewhere else and play the business man. Turning over £120 million profit is no good to the fans. Turn over £5million and invest the rest in the squad. You're cheating the fans.
