BBC World Service's Steve Crossman: "Not many players have represented both Real Madrid and Barcelona and of those that have (probably) only one has also played for Hellas Verona.

"The Serie A side are reportedly about to sign Javier Saviola from Olympiakos.

"It means they will be able to boast a retro strike force that would have terrified defences all over the world, if only it were 2007.

"Luca Toni, once of Bayern Munich, is still going at 37 and may well partner the little man going forward."

Mike Devlin from Barrow: Falcao is not what Manchester United need, they need new centre-backs otherwise they won't make top four.

Steve in London: Can't quite understand why Falcao and Blind have gone to a team with no European action this season. Could it be for the money? Possibly.

Steve, a Plymouth fan: Signing Alex Bray is a great bit of business for us. He looked awesome when we played Swansea during pre-season. Very happy.

  6. Wigan close to £2.5m Huwspublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

  7. Cleverley to Everton?published at 20:07 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

"The word on Merseyside now is Tom Cleverley's desire to work with Roberto Martinez again might lend itself to a move to Everton. Martinez has loads of faith in him from their time together at Wigan. Everton think he would jump at the chance of working for Martinez again."

Tom, a Manchester United fan: Need to sign a quality centre back more than anything. Someone like Ron Vlaar or Mats Hummels is needed more than anyone for us.

Shohan Sen, Arsenal fan from Kent: What more were Arsenal fans expecting? Of course Wenger is earning money (albeit for charity) rather than spending it on deadline day. The patience of thousands of fans are wearing far too thin. Would I be wrong in thinking that fourth place is in doubt? Wenger embarrasses himself when mentioning "title" and "Arsenal" in the same sentence from now on.

  9. Welbeck latestpublished at 20:03 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

    David Ornstein
    BBC Sport

"There is interest from Arsenal in Danny Welbeck, but this deal is complicated by a number of conversations that are taking place between Manchester United, Arsenal and the player.

"This is a bit messy because Tottenham are also involved and there are various agendas at stake. It could happen but at this stage it is not advanced."

  14. Kingdom of the Blindpublished at 19:56 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

    Man Utd

    Daley Blind

Daley Blind doesn't appear to have a middle name, but if he did it would be 'versatility.'

Left of a back three, left-back, central midfield - you name it, he'll play there. If you don't remember anything else about his impressive displays during the World Cup you must recall his 60-yard raking assist for that Robin van Persie flying header...

Dale in Cardiff: Isn't it time Spurs cashed in on that 'special relationship' agreement with real as part of the Bale deal ... remember that?!

Ross in Essex: Couldn't be happier with Liverpool's transfer business. For the money United spent on Di Maria and Falcao, Liverpool bought half a team. Two players don't make a team. Brendan Rodgers doesn't mess about in transfer windows.

Lucy: Striker for Spurs please. Levy needs to get a grip. You cannot win games on possession alone.

  16. Postpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

    Man Utd

So Manchester United fans, Daley Blind has signed up. Will he play in defence or midfield? At the World Cup it was a bit of both.

As it stands I think he IS the United midfield...

Ash Kennedy:, external This kind of drama may win a BAFTA. Danny Murphy for best support.

Arthur Wilson:, external Alvarez is a great bit of business for Sunderland. Strong attacking midfielder who will create and score. Made for the Prem.
