  2. 'Never give in'published at 15:59 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

You've sold a key player and you need to explain it to the fans, so what do you? Quote Winston Churchill of course...

That's what French club Tours decided to do after confirming striker Andy Delort's departure to Wigan.

In their statement on the club's website,, external Tours finishes off with following Churchill quote: "Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

    Makes perfect sense...

  3. Chalobah Confusion?published at 15:56 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

Highly-rated Nathaniel Chalobah looks a good aquisiton for Burnley, the teenager is silky on the ball and has a rocket shot tucked away too.

But there could be a bit of confusion over the deal. Chelsea have wished the midfielder well on his season-long loan, while Burnley say he is there until January.

    Someone's wrong...

BBC Radio Derby's Owen Bradley: "We weren't excepting anything from Derby today, who had made it clear they were happy with the window and weren't prepared to sell any of the first-team squad.

"However, with an approach for winger Matt Ritchie being knocked back by Bournemouth and Derby's apparent willingness to listen to an offer for Johnny Russell, maybe there is a surprise in the offing.

"Burton's business seems to be over for the day following Stuart Beavon's arrival, but there could well be more activity when the loan window re-opens."

  5. Ramis to remain a Latic?published at 15:54 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

BBC Sport's Simon Stone: "Rumours of a surprise move by Roberto Martinez for Wigan defender Ivan Ramis do not look like being fulfilled.

"Martinez signed Ramis from Real Mallorca in 2012 and only has a year left on his contract.

"He has also been the subject of interest from Deportivo la Coruna and Getafe in his native Spain but the suggestion is the 29-year-old will remain with the Latics."

  6. The view from Europepublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

BBC World Service reporter John Bennett: "One Colombian star has grabbed all the deadline day headlines so far but is one of Falcao's international team-mates also on the move?

"Fredy Guarin of Inter Milan has been linked with a move to Valencia for the last few days but the Italian press are reporting that the deal has 'hit a new snag.'"

"Inter are said to want a loan deal with the obligation to buy. Valencia only want the option to purchase the midfielder.

"Valencia are busy today. As Phil McNulty mentioned earlier today, Manchester City's Alvaro Negredo is also discussing a loan move to the club."

  7. Falcao tops the chartspublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

Google have just revealed the most searched for players in the UK so far today and it is no surprise to see who is top of the list - it is Manchester United-bound Radamel Falcao. The other most searched for players, in order, are Javier Hernandez, Jermain Defoe, William Carvalho, Diego Costa, Danny Welbeck, Daley Blind, Tom Cleverley, Mario Balotelli and George Boyd.

    No Juan Roman Riquelme?

  11. Striker shortage at Arsenal?published at 15:45 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

So Arsenal fans, it is looking increasingly unlikely your team will be active in the remainder of the transfer window.

A disappointment? I spoke to former Gunner Nigel Winterburn over the weekend and he said fans would have been hoping to see a proven goalscorer come in, especially with Olivier Giroud out injured.

"Arsene Wenger has talked about all the players at his disposal who can fill that striker role, the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott and others. But there is not a player who can fill that role for a length of time," said Winterburn. "Arsenal supporters would like to see what they class as a true striker - one who is proven and has the ability to play that role on a regular basis.

"Radamel Falcao and Edinson Canvani have been linked - that is the sort of calibre you would be looking at."

  14. A frustrating time for managers...published at 15:38 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

Former Wigan and Burnley manager Owen Coyle

"Transfer deadline day is not a time some managers enjoy.

"When I was in charge of Wigan, there was the case of James McCarthy during the last summer window. Everton were keen and I told manager Roberto [Martinez] and the agent what the deal would be. James was desperate to play in the Premier League again and I was happy with that, but equally I had to make sure Wigan got the right compensation.

"But then Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini goes to Manchester United, and Wigan are at the bottom of the food chain. We ended up sewing up the deal 10 minutes before the deadline - so we had no time to use the money [£13m]. It didn't suit me as the manager, but it probably suited the chief executive of Wigan.

"I brought in £19m but we spent £4.5m. I tried to buy a quality striker, believing that money would be there. My attempts were thwarted on one or two fronts. This can be a frustrating time for managers."

  17. Falcao reaction - Manchester United fanspublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

BBC Sport's Frank Keogh: "Manchester United fans have been buoyed by the news of Radamel Falcao's loan deal, following last week's record British transfer fee paid out for Angel Di Maria.

"Ian Stirling, vice-chair of the Manchester United Supporters' Trust, tells me: 'When Falcao is turning down other clubs to come to us, you have to feel good about it. United are still a great attraction for players even though we are not in the Champions League this season.'

"He added: 'We do need to strengthen the defence, but it's nice to look back on a transfer window and some decent signings.'"

I've just seen someone tweeted Southampton after they confirmed Saphir Taider's departure asking what they should do with their away shirt, having got Taider's name printed on it.

The club have kindly offered to replace it, but seems an odd thing to get on your shirt, given he'd only been at the club for three weeks...

The 22-year-old had only been with the club for three weeks, having from Inter Milan on a season-long loan.

"Dani Osvaldo's loan arrangement with the Italian side is unaffected," add Southampton in their statement., external
