BBC Sport's Pat Murphy: "Aston Villa have made an undisclosed bid for Real Sociedad attacking midfielder Sergio Canales.

"Formerly at Real Madrid, Canales was a half-time substitute for Real Sociedad in their game against his former team on Sunday. Madrid were leading 2-0 at the break, but Sociedad ran out 4-2 winners with Canales laying on the fourth goal.

"Villa's bid does not mean their interest in Tom Cleverley is over - but that one's now with the player's camp."

BBC World Service reporter John Bennett: "It looks as though Hull City have failed in their attempts to sign Marseille and Ghana winger Andre Ayew.

"Marseille accepted a bid but the French press are reporting that Ayew has turned down Steve Bruce's offer. There's still a good chance that Ayew will be Premier League player before the deadline.

"QPR are said to be interested and for the first time this summer, I've seen Aston Villa being linked with his signature. Ayew is the son of former African footballer of the year Abedi Pele."

Sam in Kent: Regardless of what Arsene Wenger thinks of his squad, he has an obligation to appease Arsenal fan's desires, when it can be done. After all the fans pay both his and the club's wages.

Right now Arsenal have the funds but refuse to make a move for a striker, that would undoubtedly please and entertain the fans. Entertainment is the business football operates in.

Wenger can rightly ignore the media and footballing critics, but he cannot ignore the fans.

  8. A new striker for the Foxes?published at 15:03 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

BBC Radio Leicester's Ian Stringer: "I can certainly see the Foxes doing some late business this year, which is unlike Nigel Pearson. The Leicester manager told us recently that you can never have enough strikers so don't write off an addition up front to provide competition for Leo Ulloa, David Nugent and Jamie Vardy. Ipswich striker David McGoldrick has been widely tipped to join but it remains unclear how that will pan out.

"Pearson has been linked with numerous central midfielders in the last few weeks of this transfer window. Nick Powell is a name which rarely leaves our airwaves and his Manchester United pedigree and ambition ticks all the boxes. Defensively City could do with some cover at left-back, given Paul Konchesky is the only recognised left-sided full-back."

His former club FC Tours had responded to Wigan showing off Delort by saying that a fee had not been agreed, but it now looks like it has all been signed off without problems.

"QPR boss Harry Redknapp had said the 29-year-old had signed but there's been a late hitch and the deal is now off.

"There seems to be an issue between Diarra and Lokomotiv and the Loftus Road outfit won't be pursuing that one any more."

Rob in Brighton: Chelsea clearly the winners of this transfer window and United massive failures. Chelsea have invested £60million on established quality, whilst recouping most in sales. United have spent almost £150million, and have yet to address the actual problems they started the transfer window with..

Altay Sonuvar: I believe Chelsea has had the best transfer window out of all the top leagues in Europe. Two players they brought in completely changing the way Chelsea plays. Jose showing everyone how it's done. Who says he lost it?

Gareth in London: Winners - Southampton - made a load of money, signed cheap and still look good. Losers - Man Utd for the exact opposite.

BBC World Service reporter John Bennett: "There's a bidding war breaking out for a former West Bromwich Albion midfielder.

"Earlier today I mentioned that Marseille's Morgan Amalfitano was heading to St Etienne, but now the French press are reporting that Toulouse are making a late bid. And Lorient are also interested.

"The 29 year-old is desperate to leave Marseille after falling out with the head coach and being forced to train with the youth team. That fantastic solo goal he scored for the Baggies at Old Trafford last season must seem like a very distant memory."
