Chance - no! It's a mistake from Steve von Bergen as he hurries a clearance and Raheem Sterlign pounces on it. England have four-on-four, Sterling finds Wayne Rooney just inside the penalty area but his shot is rather scuffed and it's easy for Yann Sommer to field. Two half openings for the England captain so far.

Fabian Delph has certainly made an early impression on his full debut- but not all good

Chris Mitchell:, external Delph is 100% to see red tonight. Rash and immature.

Alan Ferguson:, external Delph had a tenner on himself for first yellow. He failed first time but got it second time around.

John Pierce:, external There's the inevitable yellow for Delph. Not a naive youngster any more, poor poor judgement.

Ex-Arsenal man Johan Djourou shanks the ball out of play under pressure, good hassling from the England front three. Djourou is keeping another former Gunner Philippe Senderos on the bench by the way.

BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty in Basel

"Mixed start for Fabian Delph on his full England debut. Some nice sharp touches but two reckless challenges have brought a very early yellow card. Needs to watch himself now - seems very hyped up but needs to channel the aggression in the right direction."

Promising stuff as Joe Hart collects the free-kick and instantly clears into the path of Raheem Sterling, great ball. Sterling to Jack Wilshere, he sweeps the ball crossfield to Wayne Rooney arriving at the back post, a solid first touch would make a chance but it's a laboured one from the skipper and he is dispossessed.

Much better from England though so far.

Blues Club Over 31's:, external Good to see great support from English fans at the ground.

Andrew Valette:, external All respect to Villa, Delph spent last season fighting relegation. Spain don't seem to have picked many players from Almeria

Vinny Person:, external ‏England starting 11 average salary: £132k a week. Switzerland starting 11 average salary: £38.9k a week. Embarrassing

One for Arsenal fans to look forward to as Danny Welebck turns on the afterburners to rip through the Swiss backline, he then finds Jack Wilshere in space, but Wilshere is sluggish and is caught on the ball. Cracking tempo so far.

    Former England international Danny Mills
    BBC Radio 5 live

"It looks like Jack Wilshere is going to sit so can he be very disciplined? It looks like Jordan Henderson and Fabian Delph will be given licence to get forward and almost make it a front five at times."

Fabian Delph gets a hospital pass from Leighton Baines, but gets his head down and tracks back, catching Valon Behrami late in the process. Referee Cuneyt Cakir gives Delph a strong word but no card. Yet.

Nice touch! Admir Mehmedi megs John Stones and then buys a foul from John Stones, who was sucked in. Fellow Toffee Leighton Baines is then fouled on the other flank as England make a lively enough start.

Good start for new man Fabian Delph, eating up the turf down the left but his cross hits Raheem Sterling on the ankle. Fair few empty seats behind the goal England are attacking.

Gary Cahill confidently strides out of defence - but then smashes a long pass right out of play. Rusty start - but the England fans are in great voice.

Matthew Acton:, external Only Hodgson would pick someone like Delph for the national team stupid. He needs to go regardless of the result tonight.

asportingbuddha:, external Think about the German midfield 3 from the WC, Schweinsteiger, Khedira, Kroos. We get Henderson, Delph and Wilshere. Ridiculous
