Ben in Hemel: The criticism of Jones as a weak link is harsh when he consistently has to deal with Baines getting back too slowly and leaving him exposed
England shading all the areas that matter. Can they find a winner?
OptaJoe:, external 100% - Fabian Delph completed all 26 of his passes in the first half vs Switzerland. Introduction.
Times journalist Oliver Kay:, external Very rare to see an England team with as many as nine players in their best position. Stones and Wilshere being the other two.
I'm not sure what Jack Wilshere's best position is. Does he do enough for Arsenal and England?
Joey Barton

"England two great chances. Look more cohesive. Got to build on that 2nd half. Think that's Wilshere's best position. #conductor"

"The tempo has been good. There's been lots of energy and England have tried to do the right things and created four or five opportunities. They have to continue playing at this tempo and pace."
England had three efforts on target in that half alone - three I tell you - but don't expect the gentleman and women of the press to tell Roy Hodgson that after the game...
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty in Basel
"Mixed bag from England. Some promising moments going forward but still look vulnerable in the centre of defence, where Phil Jones has struggled. Switzerland, at this stage, do not seem to pack a punch but still finely balanced."
Macedonia halve the deficit against Spain with Agim Ibraimi doing the business from 12 yards after Juanfran trips the tricky Aleksandar Trajkovski in the box. The hosts lead 2-1 in Valencia.
Luxembourg have broken the deadlock against Belarus, Lars Gerson swivelling to fire in from five yards out.
A solo effort from winger Arvydas Novikovas has put Lithuania 2-0 to the good away to San Marino while Robert Mak's goal has Slovakia ahead away to Ukraine.
There goes the whistle. Lively enough stuff in Basel, both sides should have scored to be honest.

"Really good save by Yann Sommer but maybe Phil Jones could have directed it more to the corner and that would have been England 1-0 up."
What a chance!
First, Wayne Rooney spins away from danger to crack in a low shot and Yann Sommer has to spill it away in unorthodox style. And from the corner the aforementioned great of the game Phil Jones has a totally free header but Sommer pushes it away again. Top goalkeeping.
'I have no idea where his best position is. He could play anywhere on the pitch. But he will be one of the best players we have ever had.'
That was Sir Alex Ferguson on Phil Jones., external Hmmmm......
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty in Basel
"Phil Jones has been a real weak link in England's defence and is fortunate his errors have gone unpunished so far. Better opposition than the Swiss would have made him pay."
Leighton Baines getting forward with vigour down the left-hand side but he wanders into an offside position when he has men in the middle. Disappointing end to a lively move.
On the entertainment scale this is right up there in terms recent England matches. We've not had a goal but that's two or three decent chances and a few tasty tackles. The bar is low but this game is just about clearing it.
