"I think the whole England setup has been rejuvenated by the inclusion of all these young players. Roy Hodgson took that on board after the World Cup. It's given everyone a lift, with someone like Wayne Rooney now one of the older players.

"I think he's coming along fine as a captain, and it's understandable that some of the young boys coming in see him as some kind of father figure. But we must remember, he's only 28 years old!"

Just half an hour to go until kick-off in Tallinn, where darkness is already sweeping across the stadium. Fabian Delph looks busy in the warm-up - will he come out like a bull at a gate again as he did in his first start in Switzerland?

"Teams like San Marino and Gibraltar should be put in a pre-qualification qualification group where they have got the chance of winning games. Would you want to play in that team which every time you go out you're trying to keep the score down?

"You would want to play in a group with Andorra and Liechtenstein where you have got half a chance of winning."

Estonia is the most northerly of the three Baltic states, and has linguistic ties with Finland.

Since regaining its independence with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Estonia has become one of the most economically successful of the European Union's newer eastern European members.

Ruled at various times during the middle ages by Denmark, the German knights of the Livonian Order, and Sweden, Estonia ended up part of the Russian Empire in the 18th century.

It experienced its first period of independence in 1918, following the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Russian Empire.

The country has unique musical and dance traditions, including a long tradition of choral singing. Look forward to hearing the anthem later...

Is he going to be what those in the game call a top, top player?

Former England winger Trevor Sinclair insists Thursday's comfortable 5-0 win against San Marino was not a pointless exercise.

"They scored five goals, didn't concede, won the game and got no injuries - so that's a good night's work for England. They could have won 10-0," he told 5 live Sport on Friday.

"Some of the players would have learned something from playing against that kind of opposition. Moving the ball quicker, not to try certain things against better opposition and to get yourself up mentally for an international game."

"England need to get to the tournament and get their players, who are very good and some even world class, to play at that level and even above that. That was one of the lessons from the World Cup.

"When it comes to the big games, whether it's Italy or Uruguay, England let themselves down. I think a lot of that is to do with the manager.

"I think Steve Bruce could manage England and he would do a better job. He gets into the players and gets players to play above themselves. I don't think Roy Hodgson can get players to do that. He's a very good coach but he's not someone who will get into one or two of them."

England are unbeaten in 10 qualifiers away from home, last losing to Ukraine in October 2009. David James was an early substitute in that one, coming on after Rob Green saw red after only 13 minutes for fouling Artem Milevskiy as the striker cashed in on Rio Ferdinand's mistake.

Andriy Shevchenko sent substitute James the wrong way from the spot but struck the post.

Sergiy Nazarenko's deflected shot after 29 minutes secured a crucial win for Ukraine, with Wayne Rooney coming close for England in the dying seconds.

"Raheem Sterling has been taken out today, but England have the luxury of being able to bring in Adam Lallana. You're never sure what he's going to do, and that's always exciting to watch. I don't know if England need a holding midfielder in games against these lesser teams, but I understand it's a system the players need to play in and get used to."

This is the third occasion that England have met Estonia, and so far it's two 3-0 wins on the board for the Three Lions.

David Beckham was the star of the show when the sides first met in Tallinn in June 2007, setting up goals for Peter Crouch and Michael Owen after Joe Cole had put Steve McClaren's England in front.

In the return game at Wembley Shaun Wright-Phillips and Wayne Rooney scored before Taavi Rähn's own goal. SWP for England? That seems a long time ago now.

"The diamond has been working very, very well for Roy Hodgson. His players know their jobs and a lot of work will have been done on it on the training pitch. It's an exciting England selection - it's a breath of fresh air to see such competition in every department."

BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty in Tallinn

"Jack Wilshere has revealed Wayne Rooney has become 'the dad figure' in England's squad since being appointed captain following the retirement of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

"Rooney will win his 99th cap against Estonia in Tallinn as England go for a third successive Euro 2016 qualifying win, and he now stands just seven goals short of Sir Bobby Charlton's national record tally of 49.

"And Arsenal midfielder Wilshere, 22, has outlined the influence Manchester United's captain has had since becoming the senior member of manager Roy Hodgson's squad.

"He's the only one now who has been playing for England for 10 years," said Wilshere. "He's been through that generation with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. He really feels like he's the dad figure if you like. He puts his arm around us, brings us together, gets us going."

Been out for the day? In-laws and the garden centre? You've missed a cracking end to the Women's Super League season.

Start-of-day leaders Chelsea blew their chance to lift the title, along with Birmingham, who began in second.

Third-placed Liverpool came up on the outside with a 3-0 win against Bristol Academy. They would have been denied by one goal for Chelsea, who lost 2-1 to Manchester City, or Birmingham, who drew 2-2 with Notts County.

They never came and the Reds retained their crown. Amazing stuff.
