Everton fans are aggrieved. Romelu Lukaku drops back to pick the pocket of Ricardo Rodriguez, but he has been a little too forceful for referee Luca Banti's liking.

Everton are playing it patient in the early stages with Gareth Barry coming deep to pick up the ball off the centre-backs and dictate the pace of play.

There are a trio of playmakers - Steven Naismith, Kevin Mirallas and Aidan McGeady - sitting in behind Romelu Lukaku.

Aidan McGeady has been in fine early-season fettle scoring corkers against Leicester and Georgia. He'll be worth keeping an eye on tonight in the first-scorer stakes.

Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner on BBC Radio Scotland

"Celtic will be satisfied with a point against a team who are the top seeds, but Salzburg are not world beaters. They are a decent team but nothing more and that's the disappointing part of it."

Everton manager Roberto Martinez, speaking to ITV4: "It has been our work over the last 10 or 11 months to earn the right to be in a European competition. You need to get through these experiences to get to the next level and it will be so beneficial for our group, trying to get the team performing at the highest level."

On naming a strong side: "What it reflects is that we will take every game this season seriously, and wanting to win. We have a lot of games ahead of us, so we are really excited as a squad."

With the club's plans for a new stadium having been given the nod by Liverpool council, there might not be many European nights left at Goodison.

The Everton fans are making the most of this one though. Stands packed, floodlights blazing, Grand Old Team on the tannoy. It is everything you would want.

In the other game in Tottenham's group, Besiktas conceded a late equaliser to Facundo Parra as Asteras snatched a 1-1 draw, while in Group F, Danilo D'Ambrosio's goal was enough to give Inter Milan a 1-0 win at Dnipro.

In the other match in Celtic's group, on-loan Manchester United striker Angelo Henriquez added Dinamo Zagreb's fourth goal as they picked up a 5-1 win over Astra.

In Group A, Philippe Koch's late own goal ensured that Apollon Limassol picked up a dramatic 3-2 win over 10-man Zurich and Villarreal and Monchengladbach shared a 1-1 draw.

Peter Howe:, external Spurs seem to have an almost endless stream of players who can come in and not quite do enough to make an impression..

  13. Postpublished at 19:54 British Summer Time 18 September 2014

A real rattling, rolling whowunnit of a game in Salzburg with both sides showing spirit and attacking nerve.

A bit less entertaining out in Belgrade but Tottenham will be happy to take a point to go with their thousands of air miles.

They still have to go to Besiktas of Turkey and Asteras of Greece in Group C.

Three minutes at Partizan Belgrade as well. The game seems to be running out of steam rather than building to a climax though.

Both sides look happy to take a point.

Celtic with a late chance to conjure something. Nope, that's not the ticket. Anthony Stokes's free-kick floats tamely through to Peter Gulasci in the Salzburg goal. 89 minutes gone.

JQ, Glasgow: Scott Brown is the Celtic Talisman. I reckon he will either assist or score the winner. Watch this space.

Harry Kane shouts down Erik Lamela and takes on responsibility for a free-kick 40 yards from goal. He gives it the laces, but his effort is blocked by a stout Partizan wall.

Tottenham could do with a winner. Putting their progress from Group C to bed would help them keep the heat under their patchy Premier League form.
