    Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino:

"I'm disappointed and angry. I think we had a very bad day.

"We played very, very slow. We need to be more alive and play quick. We didn't create too much. We made a big mistake on the set-piece."

"Tough act to follow here after those remarkable events at Leicester - but we have two sides here who are capable of giving it a run for their money. Chelsea have made a 100% start to their Premier League season while Manchester City need victory to stop Jose Mourinho's side stretching their advantage to eight points after they lost their last home game to Stoke City and drew at Arsenal."

West Brom manager Alan Irvine: "I thought we played really well against a really good team. They had strength to bring on from the bench. Our lads stuck to the gameplan. We played with quality and they worked hard. We showed a lot of quality ability at times.

"Joleon Lescott was outstanding. No question. But it wouldn't be right to single Joleon out - it was a whole team of very good performers. I'm delighted, it's not relief. I didn't feel I was under a huge amount of pressure. I felt we've been getting closer and closer to a good result."

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, on Paul Scholes' criticism of his defensive work rate: "We never heard from Paul Scholes when he was a player but now he has started talking, which is fine. I would say he's a good guy and he was very quiet but now he's started talking and has become a little bit dirty [laughs].

"He's doing a different job now so it is part of his new job to talk. People have always criticised me; first it was about money and then different things but my commitment to this club is always high.

"As Paul Scholes knows from being a professional it is very hard to always do everything but my responsibility at Manchester City is higher than ever. I'm not a machine, I'm a man and sometimes I make mistakes and people have to understand that.

"Opponents don't give me space and they use that to destabilise me. If the manager tells me to defend I will defend. If the manager tells me to play goalkeeper and I will play goalkeeper. It's disappointing when people criticise me but I will always be the first to get out there and fight until the end."

  7. "I want to give the fans the Champions League"published at 15:37 British Summer Time 21 September 2014

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, on fans and targeting the Champions League: "I know how much the fans love me because they are good to me and my family. When I go out in the street they sing my name which is unbelievable. I want to give them something back and my target now is the Champions League. Manchester City was in the shadow of Manchester United for a long time until now. Now we are in Europe and need to do better.

"To win the Champions League is going to be very tough but I want to commit myself to the club until then. We've been together as a group for four or five years now and we need to transfer our domestic form into the Champions League. We are in a difficult group but we still have five games to play and need to bounce back against Roma on Tuesday week."

DSS Brooks:, external Man United undone by astonishingly bad refereeing today. But the response from 3-3 was very poor - and the defence is a farce.

Mike Hall:, external So funny though. Louis van Gaal got given money that David Moyes could only dream of and Manchester United are far more unbalanced now!

Sanj:, external Pretty good undercard eh? Great little scrap from a couple of Mid-table sides but it's now time to get ready for The Main Event!

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster: "It was really hard fought, White Hart Lane is a very hard place to come and it has been a difficult start to the season. Alan Irvine is a fantastic manager and the lads really look up to him and respect him. It's a great win for him as well.

"We worked hard all week on our shape and it worked. The two centre-backs in front of me were fantastic. Joleon Lescott reads the game so well, he can see it all happening in front of him. He is brilliant to have not only on the pitch but in the changing rooms as well."

Sonny Charles:, external You can't blame a referee for the five goals. Two, maybe. Another £160 million spending required in defence to get back in the top four?

Adam Stubbings:, external Man Utd's defence has, by all accounts, made Jamie Vardy look like Ronaldo. Remind me why they signed Falcao instead of a centre-back?

Martin, Milton Keynes: Had the pleasure of watching Man Utd get well beaten at StadiumMK and with their next five league games being a lot tougher than the first five it wouldn't surprise me if they were still in the bottom half at Christmas!

Tom, Stirling: Although the refereeing today was questionable, a patchy defence will always get exposed in the end. Man Utd look great going forward, but I think they will regret not strengthening at the back during the summer. All credit to Man Utd for entertainment purposes though!

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy: "It was absolutely brilliant. You can see what it means to the fans. We know we can play anyone, we exploited their weaknesses and we got the result. We know we have goals in us and we put our chances away.

"The first challenge was strength, shoulder to shoulder. I think he was mad the referee had not given a foul and then he came back and sent me down in the box.

Vardy, who four years ago was playing for FC Halifax, added: "It has not been as easy journey to be here but it is all about staying at the top. We move on to our next game."

    Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson

"Yaya Toure's been pilloried somewhat. He's one of those players who needs to play every week. He's so strong and so difficult to play against, and you don't need to rest him.

"He's not had a good start for the season. I was in Munich the other night when he played and Bayern's tactics were spot on and Toure got isolated against two Bayern midfielders.

"Chelsea have made a very, very good start to the season. You might argue that they haven't played too many of the top teams yet, but Chelsea would take a point. No doubt."

  16. Repeating mistakes from the pastpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 21 September 2014

The last time City won the title it was wonderful and joyous for them (obviously) but things didn't quite go according to plan the following season, when a failure to add quality to their squad meant they went backwards under Roberto Mancini. After a string of results that has seen then lose at home to Stoke, draw at Arsenal and lose in the Champions League to Bayern Munich, our pundit Robbie Savage feels they may be in danger of repeating their mistakes from the past.

"At the moment, it looks like a similar pattern is emerging to when they won the title under Roberto Mancini in 2012 and did not improve their squad at the start of the next season," says Savage.

"In fact, with the exit of Alvaro Negredo, this time they seem to have gone backwards in attack.

"What has not helped is that some of their stars of last season are not in form. Yaya Toure is not taking games by the scruff of the neck and Sergio Aguero does not look fully fit."

  18. Player reactionpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 21 September 2014

West Bromwich Albion midfielder James Morrison: "My job was to block a marker on the corner but I found myself free and managed to finish it. We deserved the win. The whole team worked really well. We have come under a lot of stick but we showed what qualities we have today."

BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at the Etihad

"Cheers at both ends of The Etihad from Manchester City and Chelsea supporters as the final whistle goes on Leicester City's sensational 5-3 win against Manchester United. What spirit from The Foxes - and what abject chaos in Manchester United's defence."

  20. Postpublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 21 September 2014

Jose Mourinho, speaking to Sky Sports: "What Diego Costa did in training yesterday was 100% so in his opinion and the medical professional opinion it is fatigue [not to be able to play more than one match a week].

"Manchester City have so many good players, so many options they have. It is normal they can make changes. In the matches where they played with only one striker, the results were not the best for them. It is normal they go back to two strikers because they were winning more like that.

"We have to look at not only Manchester City but to the other teams in the table. We have two points more than second place so we know we can go five points clear and that would be fantastic so early in the season."
