  1. Lay off Pardew - Sir John Hallpublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 21 September 2014

Former Newcastle owner Sir John Hall was on BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek programme on Sunday, to give his steer on events up at St James' Park.

He said that anti-Pardew stance taken by supporters was not helping the Magpies.

"I would say to the fans, step back, it doesn't do the club any good the hassle you're giving it, you've got to have confidence and Pardew has to respond to that confidence. He's the man who has got to get it right, and if he doesn't he'll be in trouble.

"Owner Mike Ashley will make that decision, if he has to, he will know what he has to do. It's easy to say get rid of the manager. But we've seen that before, we got rid of a few in my days at Newcastle and there is always the problem of who is the next manager, will he be as good? Will he resurrect the team?"

  2. Pardew feels 'Savaged'published at 10:43 British Summer Time 21 September 2014

At about 16:23 BST on Saturday, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew must have been wondering whether he should have got out of bed.

His side, at the bottom the of Premier League, were 2-0 down at home to Hull, fans were on his back, owner Mike Ashley looked worried and he could only imagine what scribes were... 'scribing'.

There was intense media speculation over his future in the week after the 4-0 loss at Southampton, including BBC's Mark Lawrenson stating his position at St James' Park was "untenable" and Robbie Savage suggesting in his column that the manager sounded like a "broken man" after the defeat.

However, by 16:50 yesterday his team had fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Hull - and the world was almost right again, although that Savage comment still rankled.

"I thought that article was not right and we've had a lot of press like that," he said. "He said I was a broken man and I was far from that this week."
