"Great start for Celtic, but really poor defending from NK Maribor. Once again though it's young Callum McGregor who gets them off and running. He's been their best player so far this season and he's given his side the ideal start here."

Andrew: "I can't be the only one who is a little bit apprehensive about the repreive Celtic have been given in the Champions League. I have an awful fear that they are going to be embarrassed all over again over two legs against this superior Maribor side. It'll be like groundhog day."

"Good atmosphere inside this compact stadium. The locals are noisy, though the section where their Ultras are usually housed is closed because of issues with racist chants."

Maribor's tidy ground Ljudski vrt translates as 'People's Garden' and it holds around 12,000, so it shouldn't be too intimidating, given Celtic have been at the Nou Camp and San Siro in recent seasons.

A section of the ground is closed tonight after some offensive chanting from fans against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The teams emerge from the tunnel. Maribor in a natty purple kit and Celtic in their traditional hoops. That anthem strikes up. Not long to go now...

Manager Ronny Deila thinks Celtic have improved following their chastening loss to Legia, saying last night: "We have to show that we have learned from those games.

"It was a tough experience but an important experience I hope and we will take those things into the game.

"The players look fitter, quicker, sharper in the passing and pressing so I am sure we will get a better performance."

As John on Twitter says, Agim Ibraimi is another one to watch for in the home side. The Macedonia attacking midfielder spent last season on loan with Cagliari in Serie A and Maribor say Celtic were keen on him before the 25-year signed a new deal this week.

Just to clarify, Tavares is the Maribor skipper and a very useful Brazilian striker, who just happens to share a name with the American soul outfit who released Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel in 1976...

Celtic assistant manager John Collins reckons Maribor are "probably a similar standard" to Legia, so should Celtic be worried? Collins preferred to take a positive view, pointing out that the visiting team are "further forward in preparation and match practice".

"Jason Denayer made an impressive debut for Celtic at the weekend, scoring the first in the 6-1 win over Dundee United. He did have a couple of shaky moments early in that match though and his defensive capabilities will be given a sterner test this evening by the strikeforce of Tavares and Agim Ibraimi."

Maribor have a good recent record against Scottish opponents, having hammered Hibs 6-2 on aggregate in Europa League qualifying in 2010 and edging out Rangers 3-2 in the same competition the following year.

That was revenge for a 6-1 going over from Rangers in Champions League qualifying 13 years ago.

So what do we know about the Slovenian champions? Like Celtic, they are top dogs at domestic level, having won the last four league titles.

This is the third year running they have reached the Champions League play-off round, having only once made it to the group stage of Europe's premier contest, way back in 1999.

To get here they beat Zrinjski Mostar of Bosnia and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
