The free-kick from the resulting handball by Bonera is right on the edge of the box. Parma's first effort strikes the wall but the ref calls it back and books Nigel de Jong for breaking from the wall too early. Antonio Cassano fires the second set-piece but the ball clips his own man before blazing into the stand.

  3. RED CARDpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

Now we have a game on our hands. Bonera was booked in the first half and now his evening is over after diving in to block a Parma shot with his hand on the edge of the box. Milan may lead but they have a tough 30 minutes ahead now.

Meanwhile, over in France, Marseille have taken a 2-0 lead against Evian. Gianelli Imbula has added to the opener scored by Andre-Pierre Gignac in the very first minute.

Milan almost restore their two-goal lead straight away as Ignazio Abate skips clear of his marker before unleashing a shot from just inside the box that Antonio Mirante does really well to get down to palm away.

  6. GOALpublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

Game on! Parma strike back to narrow Milan's lead as the ball is floated into the box and headed back for Cristobal Jorquera to slice a shot into the six-yard box that is perfect for Felipe to slot into the net. It is turning into a bit of a cracker this.

The first half-chance of the second half goes to Milan. Giacomo Bonaventura gets his side a free-kick in Parma territory with a dramatic tumble. Keisuke Honda swings the ball over the top for Alex, who misses his header but was offside anyway.

Dani Osvaldo. Remember him Southampton fans? Of course you do, he was that £15m flop you signed.

The Italian has made a better start to life at Inter though, on loan from the Saints, scoring his first two goals for the club in their 7-0 drubbing of Sassuolo earlier today.

Bizarrely it was exactly a year ago today that Inter won 7-0 at Sassuolo. If the fixture computer spits out the same fixture next year you'd forgive Sassuolo for not turning up.

Game on. Again. If this second half throws as many goals our way as the first we are in for a fun 45 minutes. Probably best you stick around.

Holger Badstuba doesn't have a lot of luck does he?

The Bayern Munich defender will miss Manchester City's Champions League visit on Wednesday after being told he needs a thigh operation.

The German, 25, has just returned after 20 months out with a knee injury but pulled up during Saturday's 2-0 win over Stuttgart.

    Spanish La Liga

While Real Madrid have had a pretty disastrous start to La Liga, Barcelona are looking formidable after their three matches.

Brazil superstar Neymar came off the bench to score both goals in Barca's 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, before heaping praise on teammate Lionel Messi.

Messi was also hailed by boss Luis Enrique who admitted the Argentine does things he doesn't even see on "the Playstation"..... Now that's a compliment. Unless he only owns Grand Theft Auto V*.

  14. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

Milan barely have time to celebrate the goal before the half-time whistle blows. The visitors hold a commanding lead that perhaps they do not completely deserve. Not that Filippo Inzaghi and his players will be complaining. Parma have a mountain to climb now.

And they do just that as Menez dusts himself down, steps up to the spot and smashes the ball straight down the middle and into the net. That could well be the end of Parma's challenge.

  16. PENALTYpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

Parma's night is unravelling. Jeremy Menez is too fast for Alessandro Lucarelli, who hauls back his rival in the box and gets a booking for his trouble. Milan can put some daylight between themselves and Parma before the break...

Great goal. Really great goal. Milan are back in front after Jeremy Menez flights a perfectly-weighted pass down the right for Ignazio Abate to supply a cross into the middle of the box that Keisuke Honda meets on the run to powerfully place a header into the roof of the net. Filippo Inzaghi is a lot happier with that and so he should be.

  19. Postpublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

Nigel de Jong is doing a job for Milan that will be very familiar to anyone who has seen him in action for Manchester City and the Netherlands. He is perfectly-placed to step in and powerfully recover possession as Parma's Afriyie Acquah looks to break away. It is simple stuff but very effective. You also pity anyone who feels the full impact of his enforcement.
