JB via text: The top dogs at Southampton seem to know exactly what they're doing. They build up a brilliant squad and play brilliant football. The big clubs buy all there stars and just as everyone thinks they will start to crumble, they come back stronger and better. They are definitely a club doing it right.

James, from Penrith, via text: People against Clyne for England? Clyne has been good for a while for Southampton, yet Tyler Blackett with 5 senior games, 1 clean sheet, 2 bookings and a red, could be straight in the England squad. Hard work and good performances for Clyne mean nothing against a Man Utd shirt.

Great game at Arsenal still as Alexis Sanchez almost scores at one end before the Saints sprint up the field and Sadio Mane drags one wide from a tight angle. There are nearly 60,000 at the Emirates and they are making a cracking din.

Abou Diaby is off - but he's all right. That's a good start for his comeback, as Santi Cazorla replaces him. The crowd like that.

Paul Walmsley:, external Oh look, Liverpool conceded from a set-piece. Deja vu, anyone?

Matt Kemp:, external Sakho again. Total and utter liability. Surely there's someone better in the under-19s? Or under-14s?

Steve Lyons:, external Manquillo is the worst Liverpool right back since Vegard Heggem.

Abou Diaby powers into the box and pulls a cross-shot across the face of goal. He's still going, the big man.

Sylvain Distin came under criticism from some Everton fans at the weekend - get set for some more son. Distin stretches to cut out a ball but can only head it over Tim Howard and against the crossbar, leaving Gylfi Sigurdsson with a tap-in.

"I'm just thinking what Arsene Wenger can do. He can maybe bring on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for Joel Campbell and push Alexis Sanchez up front. Or he could bring on the young boy Chuba Akpom for Lukas Podolski who has been quiet. I think he needs to do something pretty soon."

Reach for the stars! Middlesbrough level with a simple, simple goal as Adam Reach is allowed a free header from four yards out and he buries it at an exultant Anfield Road end.

    Cristiano RonaldoImage source, Getty Images

It is very much the Cristiano Ronaldo show over in Spain as the Portugal forward scores his third and fourth goals for Real Madrid at home to Elche.

After Ronaldo had got his second in the 32nd minute, Elche had managed to keep Real at bay, but Ronaldo completed his hat-trick - his 25th for Real - in the 80th minute before wrapping up a 5-1 win seconds before full time.

Those goals, by the way, took him to 12 in just six matches. Stunning form.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:00 British Summer Time 23 September 2014

One tick for Everton tonight as Bryan Oviedo comes off after almost an hour of his comeback. Good to see him back after that sickening injury in January.

Lewis Powell:, external Already written my Ceefax report for Arsenal game, hoping for a boring second half.

Schoolboy error Lewis. Many people have done that before but it rarely works out that way I'm afraid. Get set for 'the re-write'.

  18. Postpublished at 20:57 British Summer Time 23 September 2014

So far, so good for Liverpool but Middlesbrough remain a threat on the break. The Merseyside derby is on the horizon, I'd expect Raheem Sterling to come off pretty soon.

Purdy via text: The problem is that Wenger has left the squad short of defenders and has no choice but to play inexperienced youngsters.
