We said it was a battle of attrition, what we probably should have said was that there are quite a few tackles flying around at Plymouth Argyle. AFC Fylde boss Dave Challinor (remember his long throws during his playing days with Tranmere and Bury) will be pleased with the progress of his side thus far.

The Football League's bottom club have taken the lead through Jonathan Franks, as the former Middlesbrough man takes a shot from the outside of the area that goes past the despairing dive of David Hughes in the East Thurrock goal.

The non-leaguers are holding firm for now. Bury are having spells of possession in attacking areas but have been unable to test Hemel Hempstead goalkeeper Laurie Walker as yet. Apart from Andrew Tutte's equaliser, that is.

Hartlepool have just shaded the opening period of this match, and come close when Jordan Richards heads over a cross from the left. Still goalless at Victoria Park, which will suit Ryman Premier side East Thurrock.

AFC Telford are having a gloomy league season - they are bottom of the Conference - but lead 1-0 at Conference South promotion chasers Basingstoke thanks to a goal from former Stoke City youngster Rod McDonald.

Rochdale have got a battle on their hands - they will play for 70 minutes against League Two Northampton with only 10 men after Ian Henderson's red card against his former club.

It's a similar situation for Dale's League One rivals Swindon, who have had captain Nathan Thompson sent off, and are 1-0 down against Cheltenham.

A feisty FA Cup first round already.

  8. Postpublished at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

Hemel Hempstead come close to taking the lead for a second time against Bury. A weaving run from opening goalscorer James Potton creates some space on the edge of the box and he forces a good save from Rob Lainton.

There is a real battle of attrition going on at Home Park as League Two side Plymouth Argyle take on AFC Fylde of the Conference North. The non-league outfit have held their own so far, but both sides are struggling to create any clear chances.

That's how Bury will respond - with an equaliser from Andrew Tutte. He hits a right-footed shot first-time from outside the box and it flies low into the corner. The Shakers were behind for just six minutes.

An early surprise at Whaddon Road, where Swindon - third in League One - are 1-0 down at League Two side Cheltenham, for whom Byron Harrison has scored.

Goals, too, in a couple of the all non-league ties - Bromley lead Dartford 1-0, while Eastleigh are 1-0 up against Lincoln City.

How will Bury, who are 61 places above their Conference South opponents, respond to going a goal down so early?

A flurry of early goals - the most interesting at Roots Hall where non-league Chester have taken the lead against Southend through Ben Heneghan's header.

Elsewhere, Yeovil are leading League One rivals Crawley while Carlisle are 1-0 up at Peterborough.

Is a shock on the cards in Bury? Hemel Hempstead Town take a deserved early lead through striker James Potton. He has one curling shot saved by Bury goalkeeper Rob Lainton, but breaks free from the resulting corner and sends a deflected shot into the back of the net.

Early chance for Hartlepool as a wicked cross comes in from the right, but East Thurrock goalkeeper David Hughes manages to palm it away from the onrushing strikers. But the visitors respond through Mitchell Gilby, who hits the base of the post.

Doncaster manager Paul Dickov, speaking to BBC Sport: "I'm disappointed. We prepared for the game and we were ready to play. We have to respect the referee's decision, but we felt if it was going to be called off, it could have been done earlier.

"I remember playing in a lot worse than that. You just get on with it.

"The referee tried everything to get the game on. But at 10:30 GMT this morning, when the rain started coming down, perhaps that was the time to make the decision. I can understand the frustration of our fans. They've spent a lot of money and time to come down."

Hemel Hempstead Town of the Conference South have made a decent start at the JD Stadium against League Two side Bury. An early free-kick into the Shakers box causes a few problems for goalkeeper Rob Lainton, who punches clear.

  18. GOALpublished at 15:04 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014
