Liverpool's turn to attack and Adam Lallana gets the better of Joleon Lescott before squaring for Rickie Lambert, but the big striker can't get a proper connection and the move fizzles out.
At 14:49 in this text commentary, Craig, a Newcastle fan said he was hoping his team suffered defeat today and ultimately relegation this season to rid the club of current owner Mike Ashley...
Andy, London: re Craig in Saudi, 14.47, I'm appalled that any NUFC fan would want us relegated. I hate Pardew and the Ashley regime as much as anyone, but a ruined club cn't be preferable. We managed to avoid a Leeds-esque implosion the last time, but might not be so lucky next time.
Stephen, Newcastle: To the fans wishing relegation on our own club is just crazy. I saw a post from a gentleman in Saudi. To him I would say that is not the answer. Newcastle need to be in the Premier League. The fans need the premiership and the city needs Premier League football and the associated financial spinoff that comes with it. To wish relegation on your own team because of Ashley and Pardew is naive and short sighted. Ashley won't be here for ever....... Hopefully.

West Brom are not afraid to fizz the ball about and they launch a raid down the right which ends with Cristian Gamboa winning a corner, which is punched clear by Simon Mignolet. Bright from the Baggies.
Don't get in the way of two-ton Tommy Huddlestone's best efforts.
Palace defender Scott Dann makes that mistake and the Hull midfielder's shot leaves him laid out flat, beckoning on the physio.
Dann looks to have had his knee twisted back by the force of the effort.
John Kavanagh:, external Boggles the mind, Southampton sell players during close season for tens of millions and they have to get a train to play Spurs (see 14:55).
Harry Warlow:, external Liverpool fans so unappreciative of Rickie Lambert. Not many players worked harder in their career. Hat-trick for him today.
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown
Final Score
"It's as if Gus Poyet must have said something to Connor Wickham because all the Sunderland players are tapping their head as if to say: 'About time you scored one with your head fella.' Fantastic start for them."
Steven Gerrard stands over a free-kick just outside the area but pings his effort straight into the West Brom wall.
Crystal Palace have their first effort at goal with Mile Jedinak wrapping his foot around a free-kick from 25 yards. He gets it up and over the wall, but can't generate the necessary dip to put Steve Harper to work.
Lukas Jutkiewicz scampers clear for Burnley but screws his shot wide of the Leicester goal.
Chesterfield faced a nervous finish against League One rivals Sheffield United before holding on to beat their neighbours for the first time since March 1989.
The Spireites added to their 2-0 half-time lead when Eoin Doyle struck in the 72nd minute, seemingly giving the Blades no chance.
But Marc McNulty pulled one goal back after 81 minutes, with team-mate Neill Collins adding another in injury-time to set up a tense finish.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has taken up position on the edge of his technical area, trying to boss things from the off.
Who had the fourth minute in the sweep (15:01)? Go and get the drinks in.
Sunderland take the lead at the Stadium of Light when Steven Fletcher puts a cross into the box and Connor Wickham steals in front of Phil Bardsley to head home from six yards out.
Hull are out of the blocks quickly. Nikica Jelavic guides a header just over the top and has looked lively up top already.
Henry:, external Come on Rickie Lambert! Time to step up and give Brendan Rodgers and the fans something to sing about! One goal and it could be your season!
Barneys Blarney:, external Like the look of the Liverpool team today. Three points needed before the international break.
Right, let's have a sweep. What minute will the afternoon's first PL goal go in? Winner gets a round in.
Newcastle are rocking their questionable grey and green away kit today. It's not a strong look...
NathB:, external Absolutely psyched to see Ossett Town on BBC Football (see 14:52) - Darren Gough used to live there you know!
Neil Lennon
Former Celtic manager on BBC Radio 5 live at Anfield
"Because Mario Balotelli carries this celebrity baggage with him this causes more of a fuss than it should. I don't have a problem with what Brendan Rodgers has done today. They have had a Champions League game and Rickie Lambert is fresh and ready to go."
Mario Balotelli sidles into the dug-out to take his place on the substitutes' bench. That can only mean one thing - 3pm is here and we're under way in the afternoon's five Premier League match. Let's do this.
