BBC Match of the Day commentator at Anfield

"Everything good that came so naturally to Liverpool last season now looks laboured, forced and clunky and as a result another title challenge looks fanciful.

"West Brom have beaten Liverpool on two of their last three visits to Anfield and their 4-0 win against Burnley on Sunday ensured they won three consecutive matches for the first time in almost two years. If they're not confident now they never will be.

"Saido Berahino has notched three goals in three games, taking his tally this season to five - he'll be looking forward to playing against a Liverpool defence almost hamstrung with self-doubt."

    Martin Fisher
Match of the Day commentator at the KC Stadium

"Unbeaten in four games, successive victories over Everton and Leicester have lifted Palace into the top half of the table. Make it a hat-trick at the KC Stadium and they could climb as high as fourth come Saturday teatime.

"Hull City have almost forgotten what winning tastes like. Their opening-day success at QPR is their only three-point haul since they beat Swansea in early April.

"Tricky trips to Arsenal and Liverpool come immediately after the international break so breaking Palace's winless run is imperative for Hull. It could be a long few weeks ahead otherwise.

    Guy Mowbray
BBC Match of the Day commentator at the King Power Stadium

"If you're not a fan of either of these clubs, I acknowledge that this fixture is unlikely to be your main focus of attention this weekend. For all Foxes and Clarets however, this should be seen as one of the most important games of the season.

"In 2009-10, Burnley's only other top-flight season since 1976, they lost three of their four games against Wolves and Birmingham - the teams they came up with - both of whom stayed up. That's a possible nine points dropped by the Clarets in a campaign that finished with them five points from safety.

"The challenge for Leicester and their supporters now is to keep the King Power rocking for a game that might not be quite so glamorous as the recent visits of Manchester United, Everton and Arsenal."

Half-time at Elland Road. As Chris Waddle says below, Leeds have been the better side... but only marginally.

"I think Leeds have probably had a bit more possession as the game has worn on. Wednesday have come off the pace. Leeds, playing this diamond, have found a bit more space but they keep running offside."

Let me interrupt this Yorkshire derby to bring you some hot-off-the-press celebrity gossip. One of my colleagues has just been into the supermarket on site here at MediaCity, looking for some Welsh cakes. Alas, there was none. Apparently 20 packets had been snapped up earlier by a runner from The Voice. Why? Why? Why? We'll let you work that one out.

  8. CLOSE!published at 13:00 British Summer Time 4 October 2014

These chances are like buses. We had nothing, and then...

After Leeds have an effort disallowed at one end, the Owls race up the other and Chris Maguire swings in a cross from the right but Stevie May heads wide from 10 yards out. Make the keeper work.

  9. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 4 October 2014

Leeds make a breakthrough when Rudy Austin slips in Mirco Antenucci who finishes well... but the offside flag was up. Close, but no cigar.

    Chris Waddle
BBC Radio 5 live analyst at Elland Road

"What you are looking at here is wondering who will score a goal. There doesn't seem to be a poacher on show who can make a difference in the box. We are not seeing enough quality in either final third."

Not much happening at Elland Road after a fairly fast-paced start. Tommaso Bianchi tries to get Leeds in with a ball down the flanks, but Tom Lees is there to mop up the danger.

Hull owner Assem Allam has a fascinating story which involves torture, fake bank notes and an awful lot of hard work. BBC Sport's Ben Smith went to meet him and has written a fascinating feature on the back of his interview.

John Kauffman:, external Allam is ahead of his time. In 10 years name changing will be common place, just like so many supposed holy grails in football.

Graham Wright:, external Given Hull's team colours, Tigers is a rather obvious name, would have thought also great for marketing.

Adam Sofroniou:, external If Allam wants to come to Newcastle and call us the Magpies I think I'd take that right now.

Souleymane Doukara is relieved to see an offside flag raised when his diving, unmarked header just inside the box goes well wide. A lack of composure shown there.

"Stand up if you hate Man U," echoes around Elland Road. This might be a Yorkshire derby, but the Leeds fans are making it clear who they deem their real rivals to be.

But the chance comes to nothing. A big build-up, with three players over the ball, but Chris Maguire's low effort can't get past the Leeds wall.

Leeds appear wise to Sheffield Wednesday's early plan to launch raids down the right - putting two or three men on that flank, and it's seen the momentum switch to the hosts. There's a little lull in the action now, though.

"The thing about England is that they don't do tournaments particularly well. Every one points to the Germany U21 team of 2009, and the six or seven players who went on to play in this summer's World Cup final. England have tried everything else, so why not blood the young players through the U21s and give them tournament experience that way?"
