First things first. Let's have a look around today's newspapers and see what's going on.

The Times (subscription required), external features an interview with former Spurs and Arsenal defender Sol Campbell, now 40, owner of a £25m property on Cheyne Walk overlooking the Thames, and a mini stately home, Hallington Hall in Northumberland. Campbell is considering a new career in politics and both of his extravagant addresses would be subject to Labour's proposed mansion tax.

On the subject of a politician's salary he says: "I don't know that they should be paid as much as footballers but I do think MPs should be paid a lot more. You would then get a different type of person going for the job. Now, you need some private wealth to do it.

"Ethnic minorities, working class and female numbers are too low."

The back page, above, features Wayne Rooney's expected return for the Manchester derby on Sunday.

After that build-up, some of you will probably doubt Newcastle and Liverpool can live up to the hype and, if it doesn't, I apologise now.

What I will say in my defence is that I'd be surprised if it didn't. Why? Well, using an actual real stat, the last time these two were involved in a goalless league game was way back in 1974. Yes, that's 40, let me say that again, 40, years ago.

  5. Welcomepublished at 08:53 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2014

I heard a stat on the wireless that 70% of people pretended they weren't in for Halloween yesterday to avoid trick or treaters. Now, I'm no Judge Judy so whether you did or didn't is down to your own conscience.

But, when it comes to Newcastle v Liverpool, the stat is that the game is 100% guaranteed to deliver entertainment. I've obviously completely and utterly made that last stat up for my own benefit but it's to emphasise that when these two meet it's usually a football treat to savour.

Morning all. The Magpies host the Reds today and kick-off is at 12:45 GMT. I can't wait already.
