Aleksandar Tonev tries to make it a quick double for Celtic with a long-range hit with his left boot but it doesn't trouble Eduardo Carvalho in the Zagreb goal.

Well, what a start for Celtic. Emilio Izaguirre cuts in from the left and plays a low ball to the outside of the box and it's dummied by Kris Commons. It rolls to Anthony Stokes who hits a first-time pass with the outside of his boot to Commons who smacks a left-foot shot into the goal. A beauty of a goal.

"Kick-off is upon us, with the stadium only about half-full, though that's still a pretty healthy 30,000-ish, but it does hammer home the fact that for the first time in several years, Glasgow is not hosting Champions League football. Let's see what type of game these two champions can produce in the second tier of European competition."

It's a fast-paced opening from Celtic on what looks like an excellent playing surface.

Celtic will play a 4-2-3-1 formation this evening, with Anthony Stokes leading the line. Dinamo Zagreb will play their preferred 4-3-3 attacking formation.

OK, here come the teams. Celtic are in their traditional green and white hoops, Dinamo Zagreb are in black, and the referees are wearing an outfit most likely fashioned from caravan soft furnishing.

BBC Scotland football pundit Chick Young

"We've got about 28,000-30,000 here tonight. I think the club have made a good effort. Three home games for £60 is good. It's not as intimidating as it usually is. It underlines that Celtic have failed to get into the Champions League. It's going to be close tonight. They have to progress from the group."

BBC Scotland football pundit Murdo MacLeod

"[Kris] Commons and [Anthony] Stokes can work very well together but you've got to make sure they get enough of the ball."

BBC Scotland's senior football reporter Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Celtic's Croatian opponents have been champions for the last nine seasons, which in itself suggests they're not a bad side. Angelo Henriquez - on loan from Manchester United - is on the bench but El Arabi Hilal Soudani, who scored a hat-trick in their first group match against the Romanians of Astra, starts on the right of a three-pronged attack."

BBC Scotland's senior football reporter Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"The good news for Celtic is that Kris Commons and Jason Denayer have recovered from injury for tonight's match and take their place in Ronny Deila's starting XI. The bad news is that Callum McGregor - one of their most dangerous players so far this season - is out altogether. He's replaced by Aleksandar Tonev. John Guidetti - who's ineligible - and the young defender Eoghan O'Connell are the other players to drop out."

Here's what Celtic captain Scott Brown had to say yesterday about tonight's game and the Europa League in general: "Obviously we want to go as far as possible. Our aim is to try to get out of the group and tomorrow is hopefully going to be one step closer to it.

"This group is going to be hard, it's going to be tough for us, but I think we've got the players in the dressing room that can definitely do it.

"We've seen the video of them and they look a strong team but we've got great players as well and we are really looking forward to it."

There's quarter of an hour to go until kick-off.

  14. Postpublished at 19:50 British Summer Time 2 October 2014

BBC Scotland's senior football reporter Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"There are suggestions the top tier at Celtic Park will remain closed this evening. It'll be interesting to see how that affects the atmosphere here because Celtic are so used to having the backing of a raucous home support on European nights. Will the Europa League ignite the passions in the way the Champions League has done in recent times? We shall see."

Celtic manager Ronny Deila is targeting 10 points in this group. That's what he reckons it will take to reach the knockout stages. Celtic have failed to win any of their last five European matches this season and were effectively knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers twice as a 6-1 aggregate defeat by Legia Warsaw was overturned by Uefa due to an administrative error by the Polish club. The Scottish champions eventually exited at the play-off stage to Slovenian side Maribor, then there was the draw in Austria a couple of weeks ago.

Ronny Deila has made three changes to his Celtic side. Attacking midfielder Kris Commons, defender Jason Denayer and winger Aleksandar Tonev are all restored to the starting line-up for the visit of the Croatians.

Striker John Guidetti again misses out as he was not registered in time for the group stages of the competition and defender Eoghan O'Connell and midfielder Callum McGregor also drop out.
