Simon Hancock:, external Another awful refereeing decision against Swansea. Not even a foul, never mind a red card. Looking at the replays, Fernandez kicks the ball with his instep while the Liverpool player has his studs up.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe on BBC Radio 5 live: "We are going to enjoy these moments. It's my job to keep everyone's feet on the ground and make these days a regular occurrence. A couple of bad results and things can change quickly, we'll just keep our focus where it needs to be."

I wonder what was said when Micky met Jose. Didn't Mourinho once hand over a scouting dossier he had done on a lower league side after an FA Cup tie? I think it was to the then Scunthorpe manager, if memory serves me right.

Shrewsbury manager Micky Mellon BBC Radio 5 live: "The lads are disappointed. And that's an unbelievable moment to have considering we are playing against Chelsea.

"I could see it going to extra time because they couldn't break us down. We were relatively comfortable, holding a bit of a threat on the counter attack. To lose the goal we did was a bit disappointing. I had a good chat with Jose Mourinho, he's a top man and a gentlemen."

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho on BBC Radio 5 live: "I don't say relieved with the result. I am happy with my players' approach. You're playing a World Cup final, because that is what it is for Shrewsbury. Guys like Didier Drogba and Oscar show great professionalism. My team were an example of that.

"We knew that they were a good team. Shrewsbury's results were not occasional and they showed that against us. I think the referee was very good for them, in the sense he let them play the way they wanted to play pushing and pulling people, using their strength. For me they did very well. "

Is this one of the best weeks in Bournemouth's history? First they go and put eight past Birmingham, then they reach unchartered territory in the League Cup by knocking out a Premier League side. A club on the march.

Bournemouth's Callum Wilson on BBC Radio 5 live after his winning goal: "We've made history, and it shows we have a great squad here. The manager made changes for this game, but whoever comes in and has done well and continues that high level. We showed great spirit to get back in the game and then go on and win it."

Ned: Feel sorry for Jermaine Grandison tonight. Shrewsbury were brilliant, better than most Championship teams.

Mike: Proud of the Town tonight. We gave Chelsea a game and can't ask for anything more from our players.

Andrew: The 'Special One'? More like the 'Fortunate One' tonight. Shrewsbury Town fought Chelsea hard, and only for the unquestionable quality of Didier Drogba and without the impact of Champions League-class substitutes in Willian and Matic, the result could have been different.

  12. Manager reactionpublished at 22:12 Greenwich Mean Time 28 October 2014

Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough on BBC Radio 5 live: "It was a thrilling way to win a League Cup tie. We fought back well late on and hopefully this can give us momentum in the league. To get through to this stage as a League One club is a great achievement. It's great for the competition."

    Bournemouth 2-1 West Brom

Another decent stat for you is that Eddie Howe - now Bournemouth's manager - scored the winner when the Cherries last beat West Brom in a cup competition, back in 1999.

West Brom manager Alan Irvine: "I made the players aware of the quality of Bournemouth and how difficult it would be to come here, so there were no surprises. We needed to be better than we were. We conceded two poor goals.

"Whilst we were always in the game, we didn't use the ball as well as we could have used it. We just needed to be better."

"Micky Mellon is a positive guy and now he's got to get back to the bread and butter of League Two and a trip to Dagenham on Saturday. Chelsea needed some of their big players to get through, and Micky can be proud of that. They are a strong team, but tonight they showed they can play and pass the ball as well."

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe: "I thought the lads were excellent. The guys that came in, it's never easy but they were superb and I'm delighted for the fans and the club, we are in unchartered territory.

"The last two years have been so successful that we have a good mentality in the dressing room. It showed again because when we conceded we went up the other end to score again quickly.

"They are a good side and you feared they may get a chance. The strength of character to score again really pleased me. The players are hard working and they deserve it.

"The goal was unfortunate, we had so many good performance individually, that's what pleased me the most and collectively it was a really good team performance.

"We have not been in this position before so we want to enjoy this experience. It takes some believing really."

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho on Sky Sports: "We knew that, we knew before [it was going to be difficult].

"I think I had on my four players that played on Sunday and they were an unbelievable example for others. They were absolutely brilliant. When you have Petr Cech and Jon Mikel Obi not playing regularly, they come here and give great example of professionalism.

"I wasn't expecting anything but a difficult match. The game was going to be difficult. I was ready for extra-time."
