Summary

  • Jerome nets with low shot in first half and header after break

  • Lee Chung-yong with a cool finish late on

  • Victory puts Norwich joint-top of Championship

  1. CLOSE!published at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2014

A bad miss by Bolton substitute Max Clayton that sums up their night. A delightful threaded pass by Mark Davies sends Clayton through but he lacks the composure Cameron Jerome showed earlier as he screws a great chance wide.

  2. Postpublished at 21:19 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2014

Norwich need one more goal to go top of the table. And they go so close as Steven Whittaker unleashes a first time stop from close range that Andy Lonergan does so well to keep out.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2014

Neil Lennon is running out of time. The Bolton boss decides to replace Jerome Beckford with Max Clayton. Former Norwich forward Darren Huckerby has remarked that Beckford ran quicker off the pitch than he did on it. He has a point.

"Stoke have been very inconsistent and also do not seem to create many chances, which is almost completely opposite to how West Ham are playing right now.

"But this is a big game for the Potters, because they come into it on the back of two defeats in the Premier League and Capital One Cup, and they need to find a way of winning it.

"To get the three points they need to stop the Hammers and, if they succeed, then I also suspect this game will be a pretty dour affair."

Former Bolton striker Kevin Davies:, external Jerome banging the goals in! Opinions on zonal marking? Encouraged to do it on coaching courses, but not sure I'm a fan.

It's Cameron Jerome again. The big striker leaps high above the Bolton defence to meet Gary O'Neil's corner and head home. Thoroughly deserved for Norwich who have been better than Bolton in every department.

Jimmy Daintith:, external Norwich have quality wingers in Redmond and Murphy and decent strikers in Lafferty and Jerome. Amazed we haven't won in five.

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2014

How did that stay out? Norwich come within a whisker of doubling their lead as danger man Nathan Redmond plays a delightful one-two inside the Bolton area before firing towards the net from an angle only for Andy Lonergan to deflect on to a post.

Great defending by Michael Turner as he intercepts Darren Pratley's low cross before Jermaine Beckford can stab home from inside the six-yard area. That was a real moment of danger for the hosts.

"Unusually for Chelsea, they retreated in the last 10 minutes of their draw at Old Trafford on Sunday and let Manchester United back into the game.

"Normally, a Jose Mourinho side would keep pressing the opposition and, if they had done that, I think they would have won.

"I cannot imagine victory being in doubt for too long against QPR, though. Yes, it is a derby but there is a gulf between the two teams - of mentality, not just ability."

"Petr Cech hasn't thrown his dummies out of the pram since Thibaut Courtois was made Chelsea number one and fair play to him for that. He's been true to himself. He deserves to be a number one goalkeeper but he also wants what is best for his current club. When I first got into the Liverpool side, Ian Rush was the master. He could have gone the other way and said he wasn't interested in helping me, but he used to take me aside and talk me through games. He was brilliant towards me."

Nathan Redmond is allowed to embark on another surging run and Bolton keeper Andy Lonergan has to be on his toes to tip his curling cross over the bar. Norwich looking to kill this off early.

Bolton need to step up if they are to haul themselves back into this and Neil Lennon has made his first change. And it's a big one. Skipper Jay Spearing has been replaced at the start of the second half by Liam Trotter. Penny for Spearing's thoughts?

Halloween is turning into fright night for Morecambe as Accrington lead their Lancashire rivals 2-0 at half-time in League Two. They'll be dancing on the top of nearby Pendle Hill if the score stays like that.

"Southampton have been brilliant of late, but their run has to end somewhere, and I think it will be the KC Stadium. I like the fact Hull do not roll over for anyone and, even when they are hit by injuries, they are always feisty.

"I put that down to Tigers boss Steve Bruce. Behind Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, he is the best man-manager in the Premier League."

Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen on Graziano Pelle: "I remember when he first came to Holland at AZ, and he didn't do anything. He went away and Ronald Koeman brought him back to Feyenoord and something worked for him. He is also the best looking player in the Premier League now!"

    Graziano PelleImage source, PA

"I am surprised how well Graziano Pelle has done. If you think of the history of strikers coming from Holland, you can count on one finger (who has scored lots of goals). Ruud van Nistelrooy is the only one who has been brilliant and scored goals. Dirk Kuyt was a good player but didn't have the greatest scoring record. Then you think about players like Mateja Kezman and Afonso Alves. Graziano Pelle is a big lump and a handful."

It was pointed out to Fowler shortly after that Luis Suarez joined Liverpool from the Dutch league.

So far so good for Norwich who will go level on points with Derby, Watford and Wolves at the top of the Championship if the score stays like this. I'll be surprised if it does. Unless Bolton improve, Norwich will win by a more handsome margin.
