Paris St-Germain manager Laurent Blanc says the one-month jail term imposed on Bastia striker Brandao for headbutting PSG midfielder Thiago Motta is "disproportionate".
The Brazilian, 34, had already received a six-month ban for the incident in PSG's 2-0 home win on 16 August. Motta, 32, was left with a broken nose in the attack by Brandao, who also received a £15,850 fine.
"I find it excessive," Blanc said at a news conference.
On Black Friday, who has been the bargain buy of European football so far this season? Tweet #bbceurofooty., external
PS Parameswaran:, external Toni Kroos for around £20m to Real Madrid. What a bargain buy for a club who inflate the transfer market.
Seamus in Warsaw:, external Bargain buy of the week must be Moyes, but 45 minutes and it could be back to 'Moyes Out'. That's Footbal Lunacy!
Earlier, PSV Eindhoven advanced to the knockout stage of the Europa League after drawing 3-3 at Estoril in a Group E game that was abandoned at half-time on Thursday because of heavy rain.
PSV were behind 3-2 when the match resumed, but Georginio Wijnaldum earned a point for the Dutch team by rounding the goalkeeper and slotting into the net in the 82nd minutes. The draw eliminated Estoril and guaranteed PSV second place in the group behind Dinamo Moscow. Fourteen teams have now qualified for the last 32.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid's preparations for their match at Malaga on Saturday have been overshadowed by remarks from Uefa president Michel Platini, who suggested their forward Cristiano Ronaldo should not win the Ballon d'Or.
Platini, 59, said the annual prize, which is given to the world's best player, should be awarded to one of Germany's World Cup-winning squad.
The Spanish club have expressed their "surprise" at Platini's comments. 2013 winner Ronaldo, 29, is favourite to retain the honour after helping Madrid to a 10th European title.
Leaders Real can go five points clear if they defeat Malaga as second-placed Barcelona do not play until Sunday, when they are away to Valencia.
A highly satisfactory opening 45-minute display by Real Sociedad. David Moyes' side are in control but can they add to their lead after the break?
Carlos Vela looks nothing like the nervous young forward he was at Arsenal. Sociedad's No 11 wants a first half hat-trick and lets fly from 25-yards, his attempt keeping Elche's keeper on his toes. One minute of stoppage time.
David Lever:, external Surely Pelle at Southampton. Six in 12 games for £8m. Cheap by Premier League standards!
Jonny Jennings:, external Frank Lampard to Man City on loan. What an impact he's made!
Five minutes of the first half remaining. Moyes vents his frustration as the referee awards Elche a free-kick in front of the Sociedad bench. If looks could kill the match official would be in serious trouble.
Sam in York: Dusan Tadic to Southampton. Been inspirational in the Saints' run of form this year.
We're asking for your bargain buys...
Kieran:, external Samuel Eto'o to Everton for free. Experience, perfect mentor for Lukaku and Barkley... need I say anymore?
Jon Chau:, external Pretty easy one... Ayoze Perez to Newcastle.
Elche respond with a fierce attempt through Damian Suarez that brings out a good save. The hosts, however, are in control. The crowd like what they see but I'm still waiting for the first Moyes chant.
Forget Wayne Rooney. Moyes has Carlos Vela. The Mexico international shows terrific composure after being put clean through to find the net with a cool, low finish. With that Vela doubles his tally for the season. He now has four goals. Moyes look happy. Very happy.
Chance for Sociedad to extend their lead as Adrian Gonzalez hauls down Gorka Elustondo on the edge of the Elche area. Up steps Esteban Granero but the former QPR man's effort is easily stopped by the keeper. Moyes flashes a look that says 'I wish I had Wayne Rooney to take that'.
Apparently Moyes spent most of his first game shouting 'Stefano!' at his team. The trouble is Real Sociedad don't have anyone called Stefano in their side. He's been pretty relaxed so far. His team lead but the atmosphere is flat. Goodison Park it isn't.
Win tonight and Real Sociedad have a little bit of breathing space above the relegation zone. They're up from 16th to 12th as things stand.

Kelan McCafferty:, external Daley Blind bargain for £14m considering he is just what Manchester United needed.
So far so good for Moyes but Sociedad have struggled to test the Elche defence since taking the lead. Suddenly Sergio Canales finds himself with the ball at his feet on the edge of the area but fires wide. Lots of enthusiasm from the hosts who are clearly eager to please their new boss.
Both teams are getting stuck into one another and the referee finally loses patience as Sociedad's Sergio Canales goes into the book for sending Damian Suarez sprawling.
It's all Sociedad on what can only be described as an awful surface. The ball is bobbling all over the place. More San Marino than San Sebastian.
