  1. Emergency striker timepublished at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2015

If, like me, you love the sight of a centre-half going up front, you're in luck. As Hull centre-back Harry Maguire is going up top for a full 30 minutes.

A rejig to a flat back four and a centre-half to centre-forward. Magic.

  2. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2015

Bad call! Enner Valencia has the ball in the net after galloping on to a fine pass from Alex Song, but he is pulled back for offside. Replays suggest that he was level. It's not in the Spurs league of bad offside decisions, but could still prove costly.

Adam Heathcote: Same old story for Hull. Create chance after chance, don't take them and get punished. It's becoming painfully predictable.

Big Sam's Big Talk did the job at the break for the Hammers. The fans are happy enough now, it's all change.

"In the first half Hull were well on top and you thought there was only one team in it. After the half-time break it's all one-way traffic again, but it's all West Ham. They've got real belief now, and Hull have come out a completely different team. Steve Bruce's side are struggling to string three passes together."

Andy Carroll has now scored as many Premier League home goals for West Ham as he did for Newcastle. That's a stat which sounds very impressive until you learn that the answer is eight.

Carroll is in again but sees a low shot well blocked.

"Shocking goalkeeping from Allan McGregor. He has to do better there. You do not parry it out right in front of your goal. Andy Carroll shows his striker's instincts, he's in the right place at the right time."

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2015

A penny for Steve Bruce's thoughts right now. No goals, two more injuries and a potential defeat on the cards. We've all had better days.

West Ham make a change at the back as Winston Reid replaces the injured James Collins. Centre-halves falling by the wayside everywhere you look today.

Oh dear! Crisp packet wrists from Hull keeper Allan McGregor, and it's costly. The Scot can only parry out a dipping strike from Enner Valencia and Andy Carroll lumbers into view to bury the loose change. Must do better.

Adamski: Big Sam taken a bump to the head and thinks it's last season - he's abandoned the style which got us to third at Christmas. Frustrating!

Hugh McQueen: Sam, we're eighth not eighteenth! Get Stewart Downing in the middle and stop taking us back to last season's mediocrity.

Ejikeme Ike IkeChi: Hull are really not getting it. Football is all about converting chances when they come your way.

  11. CLOSE!published at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2015

Close! Kevin Nolan was coming under fire from plenty of Hammers fans during the first half but he almost scores a cracker at the start of the second half. Stewart Downing beats the offside flag to race away on the right, he pulls it back to the edge of the box and Nolan cushions a fine half-volley just over the top. Not far away at all!

A half-time sub for Hull - and another injury. Alex Bruce is coming off after that clash of heads late in the first half. Harry Maguire takes his place.

You have £10m to spend this month. Who would you sign to keep Hull - or one of their rivals at the bottom - in the Premier League?

Keir, Eastbourne: Would love to see QPR sign Dirk Kuyt. We all know how hard he works and he can score goals. Could squeeze in another signing in there too. Possibly Richard Keogh from Derby?

Tom Saggers: Slightly left field but Alexandre Pato? Might relish the chance?

Ellis, Kent: Can someone buy Younes Kaboul before Mauricio Pochettino decides to play him again? I'll make you pancakes...

    Steve Bower
BBC Match of the Day commentator

"Arsenal need some sort of result away from home against the top four. They went to Anfield this season and we wondered whether what happened against Liverpool last season, when they lost 5-1, would prey on their minds and then Arsene Wenger came out after they drew 2-2 and said it had affected them!

"They really need a result against one of those teams to get some sort confidence and lay that issue to rest. But with Arsenal you wonder how their back four will cope against Manchester City and certainly there will be a lot of pressure on goalkeeper David Ospina as well."

    Former Hull striker Peter Swan
    BBC Radio Humberside

"Steve Bruce will be delighted. Hull look miles the better team, but you're only as good as your strikers and at the moment they are not putting the ball in the net. You hope Hull can continue this into the second half, it is only a matter of time before they do take one of their chances.

"It's been a very flat performance by West Ham. But from every free-kick they've had the ball has been landed on Andy Carroll's head, and you feel one of them will lead to something eventually."

  18. Postpublished at 14:22 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2015

    Former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas

"There is an arrogance about Arsenal in that they line up to play their normal game against the best clubs. Sometimes you have to go and park the bus and grind out results.

"Even the best teams do that at times - look at Chelsea at Anfield last season. The first step sometimes has to be 'let's not get beat.' I don't see anyone in the Arsenal ranks who can handle the movement of David Silva."

"We would not expect Arsenal to win but I wouldn't say it would be a big shock if they did. Arsenal have plenty of good attacking players and on their day can beat anyone.

"Sergio Aguero is coming back and will cause Per Mertesacker all kinds of problems. Arsenal will have to defend deep as City have pace that could kill them."

    Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown
    BBC Sport

"Arsenal's record against the big clubs is simply not good enough. This is the opportunity for them to suggest they are back on track. A chance to rebuild their reputation.

"Arsenal are seen as a soft touch by the big clubs. They have to win the game to progress into the Champions League spots.

"Arsene Wenger tries to instil belief into his group but are they buying into that? I'm not so sure. Is there the desire there that I must win at all costs?"
