Terry Lambert: It will come as no shock to us that West Ham play terribly when Kevin Nolan starts. When he was out we were flying. Look at the stats.

Mark Daws: It's the ex-Spurs men that bother me today if they lead by example. West Ham should be able to exploit our height advantage though.

  2. Who's on your shopping list?published at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2015

You have £10m to spend this month. Who would you sign to keep Hull - or one of their rivals at the bottom - in the Premier League?

Andrew McIntyre: Mario Balotelli worth risking 10 million on?

Liam: Marcus Berg is in great form at Panathinaikos and definitely £10m or under.

Akshey Rajani: £10m strikers are hard to find but what about Javier Hernandez? Might be worth a crack.

What are you doing?! West Ham keeper Adrian was the hero in a shootout in midweek but is almost a huge villain, playing a goal-kick straight to Hull midfielder David Meyler! A man in form and full of confidence would have taken a touch, sorted his feet out and smashed it home.

As it was, Meyler fluffed his control, staggered into the box and then fell over.

  4. CLOSE!published at 13:43 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2015

That's more like it from the hosts. Andy Carroll drifts out to the left wing and bends in a belter of a cross for Enner Valencia to attack, and only some fine defending from Curtis Davies denies him.

Then, from the corner, Hull keeper Allan McGregor gets under the ball and James Tomkins heads over. A big chance - and he knows it.

A win today would see West Ham record their best ever Premier League points haul after 22 games (36 points). But it's the visitors who have been well on top so far. Andy Carroll has been a passenger.

"It came to Ahmed Elmohamady on his right foot perfectly and I was waiting for the net to ripple. Three times already Sone Aluko has got in behind the West Ham back three. The manager has planned his tactics perfectly, and then the players go and miss from 12 yards!"

  7. CLOSE!published at 13:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2015

And Hull are so nearly punished for that miss as West Ham left-back Aaron Cresswell fades a beauty of a 25-yarder just past the top corner. What a start at Upton Park. Seconds later Enner Valencia drags one wide from the edge of the area.

  8. CLOSE!published at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2015

And Hull should be ahead! Sone Aluko, playing like the lovechild of Lionel Messi and Didier Drogba so far, skins both James Tomkins and James Collins this time to run in behind. He has the presence of mind to pull the ball back and Ahmed Elmohamady has a free strike from 10 yards out. He scuffs it a yard wide.

He had to hit the target!

An excellent start for Hull City then. Steve Bruce will be very pleased, West Ham yet to get going at all.

"Fantastic start for Hull and for Sone Aluko. We've been saying all season we know what he can do but he has not done it often enough. He's unfortunate not to have scored already."

  11. Postpublished at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2015

Playing Sone Aluko up front on his own is already looking like a masterstroke! Twice in the first 90 seconds he has skinned James Tomkins down the outside and seen shots blocked away. He is right up for this.

Tom, Hull: How Harry Maguire does not start against Andy Carroll today is beyond me. Big, strong, composed, and was great at the Emirates. I fear for Alex Bruce and James Chester today.

Game on! Sone Aluko has a penalty shout inside 20 seconds, beating James Tomkins and seeing his cross put behind my Mark Noble. Corner ball - comes to nothing.

You have £10m to spend this month. Who would you sign to keep Hull - or one of their rivals at the bottom - in the Premier League?

Wayne, Liverpool: Would Andros Townsend be a possibility for one of the relegation scrappers? I'm sure he would be tempted by the regular playing time. A bit of extra pace would help any team.

Jose, north London: I'm an Arsenal fan and Hull should have gone for Benik Afobe! Great young player, unproven at the top level maybe. But he scored twice against Man Utd! And he was ridiculously cheap.

Martin, Edinburgh: Jonathan Soriano from Red Bull Salzburg has been firing them in (79 in 89 appearances) well worth a look in.

Hull have never scored a Premier League goal away from home in January, lone striker Sone Aluko has one league goal in 16 months. Makes you wonder how badly Yannick Sagbo is playing to be on the bench today...

You have £10m to spend this month. Who would you sign to keep Hull - or one of their rivals at the bottom - in the Premier League?

Hugh in France: Everyone should think about Alexandre Lacazette at Lyon. Maybe cost more than £10m though - 20 goals in 21 games.

Andy Vickers: Blackburn could've sold Jordan Rhodes for £12m in summer but £6m for Rudy Gestede is way too expensive for Hull. Try Rhodes again?

Olly Clements: Forget keeping Hull up, Colchester United need someone after letting Freddie Sears go to Ipswich!
