That's it from us. Thanks for staying with us - you were certainly rewarded if you kept the faith until the second half of South Africa v Senegal.

If your Afcon appetite is as insatiable as ever, you'll be glad to hear that we're back tomorrow at around 15:30 GMT for Ivory Coast v Mali. Until then, au revoir.

  2. How's stat?published at 21:10 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

South Africa have won just one of their last 14 Afcon games (D7 L6).

Senegal have attempted more crosses (61) than any other side in this year's tournament.

Before we go, a quick look at the Group C table. Senegal's equaliser puts them in the box seat and makes life difficult for South Africa, but all four teams still have a chance of qualifying and all four could yet be eliminated.

South Africa will have to win their final game, against Ghana, to have any chance of going through. If Ghana get a result, then tournament favourites Algeria may need to beat Senegal to avoid being knocked out at the first opportunity.

A pretty even game in truth. South Africa created more chances but Senegal saw more of the ball and hit the target with more of their shots.

All in all, 1-1 was probably a fair result. That's the sixth 1-1 we've seen in 14 matches at this tournament so far.

"So Senegal couldn't conjure up another last-minute winner. Instead they're forced to take a point - and Group C is living up to its reputation. Senegal lead the way on four points - their final game is against Algeria, who are there with Ghana on three. And South Africa still have hope. Beat Ghana and hope Senegal beat Algeria and Bafana Bafana can still sneak through. Proper entertainment in our second game - and this group is really entertaining too."

Well that livened up in the second half, didn't it? South Africa were the better side for much of that match and again you can't help but be impressed by their intricate style of football, but once again they faded in the latter stages and Senegal claimed a deserved equaliser to take control of this group.

Is that the last chance? South Africa have a three-on-three, Bernard Parker is played in down the right, he opts to cross but his dinked delivery is behind Sibusiso Vilakazi.

Three minutes added. It's been end-to-end in this second half. South Africa striker Tokelo Rantie, who has led the line tirelessly, makes a great diagonal run and works a bit of space for a shot but can only locate the side netting.

  10. CLOSE!published at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

And from it, Senegal should have taken the lead. Kara Mbodj is the man again, meeting Papakouli Diop's outswinging corner unchallenged, but this time he can't direct his header goalwards.

Can Senegal find a late winner for the second game in a row? They look the more likely at the moment. Sadio Mane wins a corner.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:44 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

Cheikhou Kouyate of West Ham is on to stiffen the Senegal defence. Alfred N'Diaye makes way.

"We've got to the part of the match where the press box is one of the noisiest places in the ground. Not with the sound of commentators - but with desperate South African/Senegalese journalists cheering/berating their team."

  14. CLOSE!published at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

And now it's South Africa's turn to go close! Beautiful intricate interplay in the penalty area ends with the ball being presented on a plate for Andile Jali six yards out, but a terrific block from Ludovic Sane denies him.

Kwaku Bonsu Jude: Come on SA, this is the Afcon, obviously the first goal is not enough

  16. CLOSE!published at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

And Dame N'Doye very nearly does give Senegal the lead! He cuts inside from the right and lets fly from 20 yards, bringing a fine flying save from Jackson Mabokgwane.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

Senegal coach Alain Giresse introduces Dame N'Doye up front in place of Moussa Sow. That's the reverse of the change he made in their first match, when Sow came on and scored a late winner - can N'Doye do the same?

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

Finally, the referee's patience snaps. South Africa captain Dean Furman goes in late on Idrissa Gueye and picks up the game's first yellow card.

Big chance for South Africa as the substitute Reneilwe Letsholonyane bursts through the middle and feeds Tokelo Rantie, who is denied by a great block by Kara Mbodji.
