It may be 40 minutes since full-time at Valley Parade but our own Ian Dennis reports that Millwall are still locked in the dressing room with boss Ian Holloway.

We could be on for some entertaining post-match reaction from the Bristolian wordsmith tonight...

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "It was a very interesting game. It was a strange game.

"We deserved to go through to the next round. It was key to go in at half-time at 2-2. We fixed something from the tactical situation and scored two goals quickly to decide the game.

"The team has shown character and faith. It's important to grow in the group. I am happy they showed character because that is important."

Alan in Devon: Another scintillating Southampton performance. One shot on target all game but they manage another win. Am I missing something here, why is everyone raving about this type of sleep inducing football?

Mark in Berkshire: Strange but it was nice to see Southampton play so poorly yet find a way to win. A sign of a good team?

Andy in Armagh: Southampton have amazing strength and depth considering their team was ripped apart in the summer.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "It was a good game for the neutral. We came here to win but it was a game of mistakes from us. We've learnt well over the season but tonight there were too many mistakes.

"There were a number of things that didn't go our way but we can't defend like that at key moments. We didn't make good decisions tonight. Eventually if you keep making poor decisions, you get hurt."

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy speaking to Match Of The Day: "It was a bit of a damp squib. Once they scored we didn't get many chances. We'd love to have made it a bit more of rip-roaring cup tie, but that didn't happen.

"We gave away a soft goal and then didn't create many chances. Southampton are a good team and have the best defensive record in the Premier League. Whenever you lose it's always a dampener but it's not going to throw us off course.

"We're not despondent by any stretch of the imagination. It always makes me laugh when people ask 'are you going to be able to pick the players up?' I played the game and I wasn't that soft when we lost, and my players are the same."

Harry Kane was given a rest tonight but he is still the man all the autograph hunters wanted down in the tunnel area. Kane has hit 18 goals in all competitions this season. In the hunt for young player of the season?

"Ipswich will just have to put this behind them now. They have games to look forward to and they can focus on the league and trying to be in the mix for promotion."

  14. Manager reactionpublished at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2015

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman: "We played with very good organisation. It was difficult, it was tough and it was difficult to play out there. There were a lot of long balls and battles and we scored with our first chance.

"We kept another clean sheet and that is important. We were prepared for the game and we showed that.

"Victor Wanyama is a pity. Before the match I spoke to him and told him he would have 45 minutes, and he got injured with 10 seconds of the half left! He will have a scan tomorrow and we will see, but he will be missing for a few weeks.

"It is difficult. I won't necessarily go into the transfer market, I have young lads who we can use."

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker at Portman Road

"Ipswich just lacked quality. They didn't have anyone to get their foot on the ball and make a pass. Southampton didn't have to get out of second gear. That'll be the most disappointing thing for Mick McCarthy."

    Match of the Day

Southampton striker Shane Long speaking to BBC Match Of The Day: "It was a tough game. it was very windy and the pitch was cut up. Ipswich are third in the Championship for a reason and it was hard.

"When you are 1-0 up you have to work harder for the team, I tried to put pressure on their defence. Sometimes when you are on a good run the games keep coming and it's what you want. We've picked up a few injuries but that will give some opportunities to some other players."

Just two efforts on target all night, and Shane Long's instinctive finish proves the difference, Comfortable stuff in the end for the Saints, but how long will Victor Wanyama be out for? That could be a painful legacy.

  19. Postpublished at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2015

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at Portman Road: "The Ipswich players are receiving a rousing round of applause from the home support. They may not have been blistering tonight, but they were not outclassed by a good Premier League side.

"Southampton's players give a quick wave to the travelling support before heading down the tunnel - job done for them."
