Stoke manager Mark Hughes: "We got the job done but credit to Rochdale.

"In the first half we found it difficult. We had a great goal from Bojan which helped us and in the second half we got to grips with them and turned it around.

"At the weekend a lot of teams fell by the wayside and we weren't going to let that happen to us. We waned to make headlines for the right reasons and thankfully Rochdale haven't made the news.

"Bojan's injury, it is too early to know, he's going for a scan and hopefully it will be good news. Since he came to the club he has done things like that, we see it in training every day.

"We look forward to going to Blackburn now. We'll take a huge following there."

Rochdale boss Keith Hill: "We tried to attack with intent and press the opposition but they are an excellent side. The game is marginal no matter where you stand in the pyramid. Fair play to Stoke, they were worthy winners in the end. The Bojan goal was a great piece of skill but it didn't frighten us.

"The lads have done the club credit."

"Stoke made sure. All four goals were clinically taken."

  8. Player reactionpublished at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2015

Stoke forward Jon Walters: "It was always going to be tricky, but after the Bojan strike it was a professional game and we killed it.

"Before the game we knew what we needed to do. We did well in this competition a few years ago, but now we have Blackburn away and that's an interesting game.

"We are full of confidence and will take this into the league."

"Stoke named a really strong team tonight. As soon as you look around the dressing room as a Rochdale player you know what's coming. Rochdale were better than Stoke in the first half but Stoke scored three outstanding goals and that was the difference."

Stoke owe me a match fee. After calling Victor Moses to turn it on, my shout that Jon Walters would also get a goal also pays off. Marko Arnautovic beats the offside trap to chase a rare punt over the top, he squares it and Walters converts from close range.

From BBC Sport's Gary Rose at Spotland: "That goal has reinvigorated the home fans, with conversations near me having drifted towards Rochdale's next league opponents Coventry before Rhys Bennett struck.

"The Rochdale fans are roaring their side on now and, despite a two-goal cushion, it could still be an uncomfortable final few minutes for Stoke."
