Tottenham are cruising as Harry Kane hammers in his side's second. Mousa Dembele set the striker up, playing him in on the edge of the area and Kane cuts inside Andre Wisdom before smashing in goal number 19 for the season.

Manchester United are starting to show their teeth, and so they should with the attacking strength of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao in their side. They win a free-kick, some 30 yards from goal, which Rooney sends into the area but Falcao is offside.

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has to be quick off his line to smother the ball before Enner Valencia reaches it. His pace could cause the Reds problems this afternoon.

Gary Lineker:, external Eriksen is confused. He's scored a beauty in the first few minutes, not the last few.

"Do we need walls in front to free-kicks these days? So many of them seem to unsight their own goalkeepers, particularly as attackers are so good at striking dead balls up and over them..."

"That was a carbon copy of the goal Eriksen scored against Sheffield United. Some might say the goalkeeper should save that, but I think the ball was past him before he could get into opposition. Just because the keeper gets his hand to it doesn't mean he should save the shot, by the way. It's not like cricket, where you should catch a ball you get your hand to."

Good start by Sunderland against Burnley with Gus Poyet's side pressing for an early goal. Jermain Defoe has half a chance when he is picked out by Jordi Gomez, but his shot from the edge of the area is knocked behind for a corner, which comes to nothing.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown, Final Score

"Roberto Martinez's Everton are passing the ball far more than they ever did, and they seem to ignore Romelu Lukaku up front. The manager had an up and down time at Wigan, winning the FA Cup but getting relegated. And this year Everton have had a total lack of consistency. They are now in a relegation battle and need to get real. They need points on the road."

They have made the perfect start...

  9. CLOSE!published at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015

Palace almost level within a couple of minutes as Dwight Gayle's flick is cleared off the line by Phil Jagielka. It couldn't have been any closer - it looks like part of the ball was over the line but not quite all of it.

No sign of the frenetic start slowing as Everton keeper Joel Robles flaps at the resulting corner and Scott Dann's shot is blocked by John Stones.

An open start to proceedings at Anfield as Adam Lallana wildly fires over the bar from 20 yards. West Ham look as though they aren't just going to defend this afternoon though. They fancy this.

Quiet start at Stoke with both sides taking time to get used to the blustery conditions. QPR know a win will lift them above Hull City.

Classic Christian Eriksen. Giving away a free-kick anywhere outside the box is a risky strategy for any side facing Tottenham and West Brom become the latest victim of a Christian Eriksen free-kick, the midfielder curling over the wall and into the top-left corner.

Andy Carroll is a lucky boy at Anfield as he clatters into Emre Can with his elbow. The Liverpool man needs treatment but no card for the West Ham striker.

Leicester City cannot get the ball at the moment as Manchester United dominate, although the hosts have yet to get near the away side's area. With Luke Shaw playing at left-back, Daley Blind is occupying a holding midfield role for United, and has been heavily involved in the opening exchanges.

"Crystal Palace were caught on the hop. Naismith looks into the centre and fires the ball into the six yard box. Lukaku showed good movement and got the final touch. I'd give Lukaku more credit than just saying the ball went in off him."

What a start for Roberto Martinez's men. Steven Naismith advances down the left, his low cross is parried by Julian Speroni and bundled into the net by Romelu Lukaku from close range.

Interesting to note West Ham's Diafra Sakho is not involved as the arguments about his withdrawal from the Africa Cup of Nations continue.

Leaders Swindon have four wins from their last five games but face a tricky trip to Sheffield United, who pushed Premier League Tottenham all the way in the League Cup semi-final in midweek. The Blades could well be fatigued after such a high-profile cup battle but will fully focused on getting their league campaign back on track after slipping to ninth.

MK Dons thrashed relegation-threatened Crewe 6-1 earlier this season and Karl Robinson's third-placed side will be looking for a repeat result, if not scoreline, to move into the automatic promotion places. The Railwaymen have won four of their last six and will believe they can upset the odds at Gresty Road.

At the bottom, last-placed Crawley Town host promotion-chasing Preston North End hoping to end a run of 14 matches without a win. Preston have lost their last three matches - all against fellow play-off contenders - but will expect to get back to winning ways.

Following on from today's early action at the top of the Championship, fourth-placed Ipswich Town return from a 10-day rest with the chance to keep the pressure on the top sides as they host lowly Wigan at Portman Road. The Latics have lost seven of their last nine games.

Promotion-chasing Derby can go level on points with league leaders Bournemouth with victory on the road against an out-of-sorts Cardiff side. The Rams have won six of their last seven games in all competitions, while the Bluebirds are slipping towards the drop zone.

At the bottom of the table, Blackpool, who were rolled over 7-2 at Watford last weekend, will be cut further adrift if they fail to beat a Brighton side that are just five points above the relegation zone. However, Brighton are a team in form, winning three of their last four league games and scaring Arsenal in the FA Cup last weekend.
