Just caught a replay of Sekou Sanogo's effort that hit the post. It was far too fast to spot in real time but it was actually great defending on the line by James McCarthy. He didn't know much about it as the ball struck his knee and flew onto the post, but he was in the right place at the right time.

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:45 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

Half-time already? That was great entertainment and I suspect there are more goals to come in the second half.

  5. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 18:45 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

Everton are playing some great football going forward but their defence is a little suspect. They fail to defend a free-kick properly and Sekou Sanogo picks up a loose ball, no-one closes him down, and he drives an effort through a crowd of players and onto the post. A let-off for the Toffees.

  6. Postpublished at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

The hosts have a pop from distance, Milan Gajic fizzing in a low effort from well over 30 yards and it needs Tim Howard to get down and push the ball behind for a corner.

Everton are rampant and add a third with another lovely move. This time Bryan Oviedo backheels the ball into the path of Gareth Barry, whose cross deflects to Romelu Lukaku and he taps in. Three important away goals for the Toffees.

'Oooooohs' from the home crowd as Guillaume Hoarau glances a header wide of the post. That was not far off at all.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:37 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

The Europa League is pointless? This game is putting forward a solid counter argument with play quickly swinging from one end to the other. Both sets of players are getting stuck in too, as Steven Naismith highlights when he goes in heavy on Florent Hadergionaj. Yellow card.

David Spencer:, external Fantastic game of football this. If the pitch is having anything to do with it, then we need more artificial pitches in England.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 18:33 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

This game is very open and Young Boys are only denied an equaliser thanks to a fantastic double save by Tim Howard. First, Howard gets a hand to push away Guillaume Hoarau's low shot before then smothering the follow up from Raphael Nuzzolo.

Napoli are already in a good position in their tie away to Trabzonspor having grabbed a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Argentina forward Gonzalo Higuain and Brazilian defender Henrique.

There have also been a couple of early goals in Torino's clash with Athletic Bilbao which is locked at 1-1 after Maxi Lopez cancelled out Iaaki Williams' opener for the Basque side.

Gervinho has drawn first blood for Roma to give the Italian club a 1-0 lead over Feyenoord at the Stadio Olimpico

Double blow for the hosts as Everton grab a swift second! It is a lovely move too as Steven Naismith crosses across the face of goal and Seamus Coleman pokes in at the far post. Replays show Naismith had come in from an offside position in the build-up to that goal, though. Controversy.

  15. Postpublished at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

Jan Lecjaks floats a ball into the area as the hosts push forward, it is aimed at Guillaume Hoarau but the ball is too close to Tim Howard who claims comfortably.

Great response by Everton! They've been trying to find the head of Romelu Lukaku with a few crosses and it eventually pays off as Gareth Barry swings the ball in, Lukaku rises and nods beyond Yvon Mvogo.

Everton have a free-kick, some 30 yards from goal. It looks too far to trouble Yvon Mvogo but Ross Barkley has a go, hitting the wall and the ball deflects behind.

  19. Postpublished at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

There are definitely more goals in this game as Everton again come forward, this time Romelu Lukaku pokes the ball through the defence for Ross Barkley, who tries to cut it back to James McCarthy but Yvon Mvogo is off his line to grab the ball.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 18:17 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

Much better! Two chances in quick succession for Everton as Romelu Lukaku uses his strength to evade a couple of challenges on the edge of the area, he then hits a shot low and hard towards the corner but Yvon Mvogo palms it away before then holding Ross Barkley's fierce drive seconds later.
