Southampton certainly dominated for long periods. They had 63% possession and 23 attempts on goal, compared to Palace's nine. They may only have hit the target three times but it was enough - just.
Southampton match winner Sadio Mane: "It was so difficult, the last two or three games. The win is good for the confidence and we keep going. Confidence was a little bit low but today finally we win."
Southampton are applauded off the field. They stayed patient, they kept their composure and, ultimately, did just enough to win the match. That stops the rot as they score their first goal at St Mary's for more than six hours.
What is Yannick Bolasie doing? The ball falls to him inside the penalty area but, instead of shooting, he dinks a cross to no-one at the far post. Terrible.
Jason Puncheon's delivery is punched back to him by goalkeeper Fraser Forster and he then bends a shot wide.
So close. Yannick Bolasie's low cross from the right is cleared just inches past his own post by Maya Yoshida. Corner Palace.
Four minutes of added time but Southampton have possession.
Into the last minute of the 90 as Palace launch the ball forward again.
Palace are now pouring forward but it all looks a little desperate. Into the last three minutes.
Forget that. Dwight Gayle whips in the free-kick himself and it is too hard and away for a goal-kick. Is Pardew heading to his first away defeat as Palace boss?
Dwight Gayle wins a free-kick for Palace on the byeline. Chance...
At last. Substitute James Ward-Prowse drives forward, shoots low from the edge of the penalty area and Sadio Mane is on hand to chip home the rebound after Julian Speroni's weak parry.
Shane Long heads Dusan Tadic's cross over. The former West Brom striker hasn't scored in the Premier League for four months...
Victor Wanyama looks to force the issue as he attempts to juggle the ball through Crystal Palace's defence. The midfielder is crowded out though and the resulting corner is cleared.
Dusan Tadic curls a 25-yard free-kick over the bar. Not a bad effort but Julian Speroni was never troubled. On comes midfielder James Ward-Prowse for the hosts and he will slot straight into the centre in place of Filip Djuricic.
Southampton are coming forward strongly but it is still all too intricate. What is wrong with being a bit more direct at times?
lfcway:, external Surely anything from now on will be a bonus for Southampton. They shouldn't be too disappointed.
So close to the opener. Graziano Pelle's header is flicked towards goal by Dusan Tadic but the ball is inches wide of the post.
Saints boss Ronald Koeman has seen enough. He replaces striker Pelle with striker Shane Long.
