"This is where you want your experienced players to start organising and when I look around the Villa team I don't see too many. The instructions are going to have to come from the bench."

Into the final 15 minutes now. It's not happened for West Brom since that miss from Joleon Lescott, and Villa are the side looking most likely to score. Scott Sinclair gets a cross in and Craig Gardner almost hooks the loose ball into his own net. Just over the top!

"Jack Grealish is a good young player. He has loads of potential but coming into a game of this magnitude, at this stage, he is going to have to show discipline."

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Another attacking sub, you can't accuse Tim Sherwood of sitting on a lead. Teenager Jack Grealish replaces Charles N'Zogbia on the right of midfield.

"This game is really opening up now and Aston Villa are dominating. It is becoming frustrating for West Brom. At the moment they are resorting to route-one football and trying to win the second balls.

"Scott Sinclair has done really well. He has looked really lively in the second-half. He and Charles N'Zogbia on the wings have been very good."

West Brom are so ragged since that change of shape, I don't even know which shape they are supposed to have but whatever it is, it's wrong. Aston Villa have another great chance as they get clear, it's laid back to the waiting Ashley Westwood and his shot is blocked by a flying Albion defender.

Villa should be out of sight. They should be booking the hotel and the train tickets for Wembley.

  7. CLOSE!published at 19:00 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Scott Sinclair again! West Brom's defence has been all over the place since they took Jonas Olsson off and Scott Sinclair runs in behind them again. He is never convincing on his left foot though, you never backed him to hit the target and he doesn't, dragging a shot wide from 18 yards.

At the other end Saido Berahino hits one well wide from similar range.

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 18:58 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Great save! Villa almost make it two as they put together a neat move, freeing Scott Sinclair in behind but Boaz Myhill comes out brilliantly to spread himself and make a fine sprawling save. That was the game right there. Wembley beckoned for Sinclair and for Villa.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:57 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Is Callum McManaman the man to make the difference for West Brom? The winger is on for centre-half Jonas Olsson as Albion have a tactical reshuffle.

"Tony Pulis is really trying to push his team on. He is very animated on the sidelines. I don't think the route-one football will work for West Brom as the two Aston Villa centre-backs are dealing with it.

"If Aston Villa want to see this game out the whole stadium has got to stay behind them - as they are at the moment."

"Will West Brom rue those missed chances? Joleon Lescott, for a defender, normally has a sure touch when presented with those positions from set pieces but he tried to make too sure. Since then some flashes of searing pace from Saido Berahino provide evidence that there is still plenty here for the Baggies."

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Tom Cleverley gets a hearty round of applause as he is replaced by Carlos Sanchez in the Villa midfield. Where will Tom Cleverley be playing next season? There's a debate for another day...

Into the last half an hour. More goals in this? The game is as open as it has been all afternoon, as Scott Sinclair gets a shot away at one end and seconds later Craig Gardner puts in a testing cross at the other end. Aston Villa's last two home games have been settled bya decisive last-minute penalty. So I doubt this one will have a relaxing finale...

"Oh my dear! I have seen two opportunities from West Brom that should be in the back of the net. How Joleon Lescott missed that I just do not know. It looks like he was trying to be too precise.

"If West Brom go on to lose this game they will rue two missed chances from Brown Ideye and Lescott."

Gabriel Agbonlahor is booked for hacking down Joleon Lescott but Tim Sherwood won't mind. He is setting the tempo, closing down from the front. It's been a much better showing in the second half. But West Brom look dangerous every time they get the ball in the area.

  16. SITTER!published at 18:47 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

That's two stone cold sitters that West Brom have missed today now! Brown Ideye shanked one over in the first half and now Joleon Lescott heads wide from four yards out. Again it is a corner which undoes Villa, an inswinging ball finds Lescott at the back post and he heads it wide.

    Has to hit the target...

  17. Postpublished at 18:45 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

West Brom equalised on Tuesday night from a set-piece and another deep free-kick causes panic in the Villa defence, Brown Ideye is jostling for it and it eventually falls for Joleon Lescott. If he could have anticipated it, he would have had a real chance. But the ball took him by surprise and just ends up hitting him.

  18. Postpublished at 18:44 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Villa Park

"Claret smoke from flares filled the air as Fabian Delph put the home side in front. Albion have been the better side so far but that was an emphatic finish - and received a much more reserved reaction from manager Tim Sherwood than the goals in Tuesday's league game. Albion had looked very solid up to that point but now need a goal to add to that."

  19. Postpublished at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Can West Brom respond then? Tony Pulis's response to that goal was extremely X-rated. Villa have looked a different team since the break.
