Everton boss Roberto Martinez on ITV: "We learned that when we have got that tempo in our play and when we use the character we have we are a very strong team. We started with the team edgy and with a bit of anxiety in our game.

"We scored a very good goal and had one cleared off the line. You could see the momentum carrying us through. We then kept Dynamo Kiev very, very quiet and in those situations you can be exposed.

"Overall it was a very good performance and the reaction shows we are a very good team. We are not favourites as the home team always has a little advantage. Now we are looking forward to the second leg as we travel well in Europe. It is a challenge we are looking forward to."

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku on ITV: "I'm very happy with the team performance. The team reacted well after first half. We should have maybe scored three goals to be safe but they have top class players.

"It's up there with my best performances. Now we have to focus on the league as we are not doing too well.

"Everyone up front was scared to have the ball and we put the defenders and the midfielders in danger, but after 20 minutes we improved. Now we are into the last third of season and if we want to save the season we have to keep playing like this.

"We are favourites, but it will be difficult over there."
