Everton manager Roberto Martinez recalls Ross Barkley, Kevin Mirallas and Antolin Alcaraz to his starting line-up. The Blues were beaten 2-0 at Stoke eight days ago but make changes as midfielder Barkley comes in for Darron Gibson, Mirallas for the cup-tied Aaron Lennon and defender Alcaraz for John Stones - an injury doubt ahead of kick-off.

The visitors make three changes from their weekend win and their top league scorer Andriy Yarmolenko is in. He has nine league goals this season.

Everton XI: Howard, Garbutt, Jagielka, Alcaraz, Coleman, McCarthy, Barry, Mirallas, Barkley, Naismith, Lukaku.

Dynamo Kiev XI: Shovskovskiy, Danilo Silva, Veloso, Antunes, Dragovic, Yarmolenko, Sydorchuk, Gusev, Vida, Buyalskiy, Mbokani.

Clint Baps:, external They've come this far to the detriment of their league form, Everton may as well try to win the Europa League.

Sally Anders:, external I can't wait for next season, Rotherham away one week, Real Madrid the next!

What's gone wrong with English clubs in Europe? If Everton go on and win the Europa League will that be a decent return for the Premier League? Have top-flight clubs under-performed on the continental stage this stage and why?

Home to Juventus on the Wednesday. Away to Rotherham on the Saturday. That's a scenario Everton could be faced with next season if they go down. The winners of this season's Europa League win a place in next season's Champions League.

There are seven other Europa League ties taking place tonight - some are already under way while one has finished.

Goals from Alex Witsel and Domenico Criscito either side of the break has given Russian side Zenit St Petersburg a 2-0 win against Italian visitors Torino, who had Marco Benassi sent off after 27 minutes.

In the 18:00 GMT kick-offs, Inter Milan have been pegged back to 1-1 at Wolfsburg with Naldo's header cancelling out Rodrigo Palacio's fifth-minute opener for the Italians.

Midfielder Roman Zozulya has fired Ukrainian hosts Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk into a 1-0 lead against Dutch champions Ajax, while Club Brugge versus Beskitas is 0-0 in Belgium.

In the day's later kick-offs, at 20.05 GMT, Fiorentina host Roma in an all-Italian tie, Napoli welcome Dinamo Moscow to the Stadio San Paolo and Villarreal host defending champions Sevilla in an all-Spanish clash.

The Toffees have won just once in 12 top-flight games yet they are playing like world-beaters on the Europa League stage, brushing aside Germany's second best team Wolfsburg and French club Lille among others.

Tonight they face a last-16 tie with Dynamo Kiev at Goodison Park. A victory is vital to take to Ukraine for next Thursday's second leg as Roberto Martinez's side look to forget their domestic troubles.

They're falling quicker than an England batsman at the Cricket World Cup. This time last month seven British clubs had ambitions of conquering Europe in the Champions League and the Europa League. Then Liverpool, Tottenham and Celtic fell through the trap door. Last night it was Chelsea's turn to succumb to continental opposition.

This time next week - unless Arsenal and Manchester City can overturn first-leg deficits - Everton will be the last British team in Europe. That's right, the club 14th in the Premier League table just six points above the relegation zone.

Their season has been branded 'unacceptable' by the manager. Their Premier League future is far from secure after a dreadful run of form. Yet this time next week Everton may well be on their own flying the flag for British football in Europe.

The hopes of a Premier League team appearing in a showcase European final could rest with the likes of Darron Gibson, Luke Garbutt and John Stones - not John Terry, Diego Costa or even Steven Gerrard.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Celtic have gone. Arsenal and Manchester City are on the brink. Hands up who thought Everton would be Britain's last club standing in Europe?
