Mungo Russell: Re Shane Daly. Didn't Messi just dispatch the current premier league champions almost single-handedly? He would rule the Prem.

Abhishek: The lame argument that Messi won't do well in premier league. Beating Arsenal, Manu, City, Chelsea isn't enough?

Tom Wylie: Messi doesn't need to play in the PL to prove himself, he tears Europe's biggest teams apart with ease every season .

Who'd have thought that Pepe and Suarez would be at the heart of it starting to kick off a bit? Waiting for Ramos to join in now.

Moments after Neymar should have put Barca 2-0 up, Cristiano Ronaldo levels it up with his 15th El Clasico goal.

It's superb approach play from Karim Benzema, backheeling the ball into his path and a good old-fashioned toe-poke does the business from 10 yards.

Fine first half hour. Barca not playing with the same threat as they carried against Manchester City but they're not far away. Real looking shaky at the back - and that should be two!

Real are ropey from a corner again, Luis Suarez hits one across goal and Neymar should bury it, but he scuffs it straight at the keeper...

Luis Suarez is in the book, watch this space. Pepe was booked for fouling him moments ago and now the Uruguayan rakes the defender's calf. Nasty tackle that. Suarez pumped like Gazza in the 91 final...

Good spell from Real, lots of possession and it ends with Marcelo cutting in and firing in a shot which is well blocked. Long-ball merchants Barca then fire one over the top and Iker Casillas clears with a flying header, a full 20 yards out of his goal! Maverick.

Barca goalscorer Jeremy Mathieu then almost heads the equaliser into his own net, miscuing one over the top. A real 50p head.

Madan Roka: Look at that! Barca scoring from a set piece! Great cross!

Kritt Normsaskul: For all of Barca's star studded squad, it's a defender with a good old fashioned header that puts Barcelona in the lead

Jeremy Mathieu, who joined Barcelona in the summer after five years with Valencia, has scored seven La Liga goals - three have been against Real Madrid. The Shola Ameobi of El Clasico.

The free-kick comes to nothing but it's stating to get niggly. Ivan Rakitic and Dani Carvajal having a little tussle in the wall.

"Another sign of Barca's greatly improved set piece play. Last season they never even looked like scoring from those positions, now it happens regularly. Credit to Luis Enrique."

The first booking of the night goes to Pepe, who is pinged for going through the back of Luis Suarez. I'm not so sure he actually touched him but it's a yellow card and a free-kick in a good position.

Real Madrid have conceded a league-high 33% of their goals to opposition headers this term. And there's another one. Maybe they should sign Ryan Shawcross.

Hands up who had Jeremy Mathieu for first goal? The French defender has his first La Liga goal for Barca with a textbook header down into the net, Lionel Messi's free-kick picks him out and the centre-half loses Sergio Ramos to thump in.

Shane Daly: If Messi does come to the Premier League, we will see how good he is, 38 hard games. Ronaldo did it very well, Messi wouldn't cope.

Brilliant football. Marcelo loses the ball in the Barca half and the hosts counter, Lionel Messi driving play inside and then finding Neymar on the left. He crosses early, Messi stretches to head wide from 16 yards but he should have left it, he had a man over...

A breathless opening 15 minutes. Real Madrid's front players starting to come to life now. How would the game have changed if Cristiano Ronaldo had scored that chance? I'm not sure they're set up to sit back...

Spanish football writer Andy West at the Nou Camp

"That chance for Ronaldo came from the defensive weakness in Barca's new system. Messi is not a natural defender from the right wing and he left too much space for Marcelo to spark the attack."
