Dennis Ethan: Fantastic breakaway from Griezman but poor final ball ruins everything
This game is on the verge of exploding. First Raphael Varane's hopeful 75-yard clearance is somehow chased down and plucked out of the sky by Cristiano Ronaldo but Karim Benzema can't weave out of danger, and then Antoine Griezmann brilliantly evades Sergio Ramos down the right and his cross is cut out.
High tempo, high quality.
Atleti have been struggling to get out of their own third but they do finally mount an attack, winning a free-kick which Diego Godin is close to heading in. What a threat he is up there.
That's got the crowd going again. Have they weathered the Real storm?
Atobajaye kazeem: if Real Madrid are disciplined enough this forward line will run riot and do the damage needed for them.
TruthSeeker: Just when the fire is dying in Old Trafford, another High Octane inferno starts in Madrid
Paul Collins: Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid. Only a matter of time before the pathetic play acting/ sportsmanship begins.

Sergio Ramos wins one tackle brilliantly but then goes in rather high on Gabi and the home crowd bay for Royal Blood. No card shown from referee Milorad Mazic, who will have his eardrums and his patience tested this evening.
Gareth Bale gets behind again, on the right this time, and his cross almost finds Cristiano Ronaldo. Good clearance.
Cristiano Ronaldo lines up a free-kick - Gazza style - 40 yards out and crunches in a swerving strike which forces Jan Oblak into a save down to his right. Atleti just hanging on.
170 minutes of this tie to go...
Football presenter Mark Pougatch on Twitter:, external Fanatical support for Atletico
Jay: I hope Bale has parked his car in a safe place.
What a start this is from Real Madrid, making Atletico look second-rate so far. If you don't play with a defensive midfielder, just don't ever not have the ball. that seems to be the solution.
Will Gareth Bale get a better chance to score than that early chance? A golden chance.
The pre-match chat was that the intensity of Atletico would be too much for Real. So far it's the opposite. A white tide of possession.
Great chance for Gareth Bale!
The Welshman is clean through the middle after a slip in defence, one-on-one with Jan Oblak, and the Atleti keeper spreads himself to make a flying save!.
Top goalkeeping - but when you're the most expensive player in the world you have to score those...
Cristiano Ronaldo to Dani Carvajal, his cross is a tester and Gareth Bale is close to meeting it on the slide! Carvajal retrieves the ball and fires in a shot at Jan Oblak. Bright start from Real.

A hug from the managers, a roar from the stands, a whistle from the referee. Game on!
matt wilkinson: Sporting rivalry buster easy. 1985 Ryder Cup win at the Belfry. Started an Atletico style domination that reversed trend!
