And that final whistle could well signal the end of Burnley's stint in the Premier League. It's such a shame that it has come with a bit of a whimper today, but the Clarets were up against it from the 24th minute, when Michael Duff was dismissed for tripping Cheikhou Kouyatein in the area. Mark Noble's subsequent penalty was the difference maker.

Burnley now have some intent. But the long ball forward is dealt with and Ben Mee is forced into hacking down a marauding Stewart Downing.

Nene and Carlton Cole have been enthusiastically received by the Hammers support. Nene almost wriggles in on goal but is cut out. And then Cheikhou Kouyate hits a drive from 20 yards, which Jason Shackell nods off the line.

The chances are piling up for the home side. James Collins hooks over from a corner. It's quite disheartening to see Burnley unable to give this a real go.

Carl Jenkinson stretches his legs down the right side, not for the first time today. He has linked up with Stewart Downing to excellent effect. Burnley clear, but Carlton Cole finds himself with another tasty opening, but hits his shot straight at Tom Heaton.

In fact, when the chances do come, they are falling to West Ham. Carlton Cole, who has just come on for Enner Valencia, nods over a Stewart Downing cross. He should have done better.

Unfortunately for Burnley, this is drifting away. And that's no criticism of their effort. This has just been an impossible ask with 10 men.

    Final Score

"It's hard to see Burnley getting out of the relegation zone at this rate. QPR have given themselves a chance but Leicester have got momentum and will get out of it - Hull too. Sunderland are winning, and on current form Newcastle could be the ones to get sucked in as well."

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 2 May 2015

Kevin Nolan, who has been the proverbial engine room for West Ham today, is off for Nene.

Burnley bring on Marvin Sordell, who replaces Ashley Barnes.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa are leading 3-1 against Everton. Sunderland are 2-1 up against Southampton. And QPR are level at 1-1 at Liverpool. The signs are not good Burnley fans.

The game has lost its zip, with West Ham prodding away with slow, patient build-up. Burnley briefly win it back, but Danny Ings is an isolated figure and watches the ball drift over his head.

  12. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 2 May 2015

Burnley need something. Anything. As it stands, they're just about keeping their heads above water, but West Ham keep coming and coming for that all important second goal.

  13. Postpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 2 May 2015

Mark Noble's cross goes all the way to the back post and finds Reece Burke. Kieran Trippier is on hand to block the shot six yards out. Burnley are unable to find a way to put sustained pressure on the Hammers.

  14. Postpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 2 May 2015

Ben Mee's right at the centre of things. He catches Kevin Nolan with a high boot - and the Hammers midfielder is a little displeased.

    Final Score

"To stay up you do need that bit of quality as well as the blood, sweat and tears. Burnley have been lacking in quality, and they've been picked off in their general play. Just get a point today. Although they were unlucky to have Michael Duff sent off when there were players covering."

This Stewart Downing dive/penalty claim. You can watch from six different angles and come up with six different opinions. Downing has to hurdle he tackle - but does he have to hit the deck?

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 2 May 2015

Ouch. Cheikhou Kouyate has taken one down the back of the leg from Michael Keane, who gets a yellow card.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 2 May 2015

Hmmm. Stewart Downing has dived, apparently. The winger is flying into the area, and Ben Mee comes sliding across.

There is contact, but is Downing expecting it? It's either a penalty or a dive - John Moss has gone with dive.

West Ham come close. Kevin Nolan's poked ball through finds Morgan Amalfitano, and the Frenchman drifts an effort wide.

At the other end, Matty Taylor's low drive is kept out by Adrian.

And, it's all gone a bit bonkers now, as Tom Heaton saves from Kevin Noland and Enner Valencia can't put in the rebound.

  20. Postpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 2 May 2015

And when things aren't going for you, they're not going for you. Carl Jenkinson bundles over Danny Ings on the edge of the area - no free-kick, says Jonathan Moss.
