Leicester City's joy is short lived as Matty James looks like he's suffered a horrible, horrible injury.

The defender tracks Ryan Bertrand down the Southampton left but lands heavily as he plants his foot and doesn't even bother trying to get up. It looks like a twist of the ankle but could be some sort of ligament damage.

It's ugly to watch, the stretcher is on. James is lying on it and applauding the support he is getting but he, understandably, looks distraught.

"We are staying up," they sing in the King Power Stadium. The fan on our last entry is being rewarded for his positivity and so was Riyad Mahrez as he ends a mazy run with a slick finish.

The Algerian picks the ball up centrally and sets off, beating one man and takes aim from slightly left of centre 20 yards from goal - it's a crisp finish, low across goal and into the bottom corner.

What a start for Leicester. They only know how to win these days.

Robert Huth in the thick of it at either end and within a minute of going close he has to be Jack Flash in his own area to slide in and deny Ryan Bertrand in a good area. Corner comes in, cleared for another, corner comes in, caught.

    Catching practice for Kasper Schmeichel.

In comes the corner, Robert Huth with the flick... over. A good glancing header at the near post but he got a bit much on it.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

A rapid start sees Sadio Mane launch a Southampton break which gets comfortably dealt with at the back by the home side and now they settle, clipping a free-kick into the box from halfway and hang on... corner.

Right Leicester City, Premier League participation with all its riches next season is all on you.

Sunderland's win at Everton has thrown the cat amongst the pigeons - they are now 14th - so a big 90 minutes await.

Here we go. Referee Roger East is getting us underway...

  8. Who would have thought it?published at 14:58 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC Match of the Day commentator at King Power Stadium

"Who would have thought Leicester would be this close to safety after four and a half months in the bottom three?

"Who would have thought Pearson would have still been in a job? His belief never wavered though, even after watching game after game snatched away from a team that has looked shot-shy at times and defensively leaky at others, but never outclassed.

"The Saints are just the sort of team capable of throwing the whole relegation equation into confusion again as they chase points for Europa League qualification.

"Ronald Koeman isn't happy with the way their season is petering out. Just four wins in 13 games has destroyed optimistic hopes of Champions League football. He'll now be looking for renewed momentum to take into next season before he again adds to the squad this summer with added fire power up front."

Southampton upload a quote from midfielder Victor Wanyama on Instagram:, external "We are frustrated in the dressing room. We need to be ready for the game. It's just not about Leicester. In all remaining games we will have to show that aggression to get results."

  10. Tunnel time...published at 14:56 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Players in the tunnel. Jose Fonte glares into the distance, a stare of focus. Paulo Gazzinga - Southampton's goalkeeper making his first start of the season - has a pony tail. Not sure if that look works on a keeper. Here come the players, cue the roars...

  11. Award for Pearson...published at 14:54 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Newcastle United caretaker manager John Carver may have stated he thinks he is the "best coach in the Premier League" this week but he cannot claim that title during April at least.

Nigel Pearson was given the Premier League's Manager of the Month award this week. His side won four of their five games in April.

Did you know? Pearson's side kept clean sheets in three of their last four matches, the same number that they kept in their previous 19 league fixtures.

Tom and Sergio (central two pictured) from indie band Kasabian are on the pitch at the King power Stadium. The Leicester fanatics are on the microphone in the centre circle giving it a big build-up. They get the crowd involved, much cheering, much applause, much chanting, much fist pumping.

  13. A sacking, an Ostrich, survival?published at 14:49 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

It really has been a remarkable season at the King Power Stadium.

No fan there can argue they haven't had drama for the cash splashed on a season ticket.

First came the summer hope, an unlikely signing in Esteban Cambiasso, then a stunning 5-3 win over Manchester united.

But manager Nigel Pearson seemed intent on being the stand-out character of the season.

The 51-year-old was reportedly sacked in February, only for that not to be true. He had a touchline fracas with Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur a couple of months after verbally abusing a fan. Asking a journalist if he was "an ostrich" drew more column inches but staying up, a feat which once looked unthinkable, would cap off a season of mayhem.

  14. The race for Europe...published at 14:47 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Southampton fans will no doubt relish a bit of Spain, France, Italy, maybe even Ukraine next season on a Europa League adventure.

The south-coast club have played in foreign competition just once since 1985, a first round exit in the Uefa Cup in 2004.

They are seventh, just a point behind Spurs - who travel to Stoke today - but have a far healthier goal difference than the side guided by their former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

What an irony it would be if Ronald Koeman stopped his predecessor from qualifying for Europe. The top six are guaranteed a European place, seventh will do the job if Arsenal win the FA Cup.

  15. Through their paces...published at 14:46 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

The players are out warming up. I can see Nathaniel Clyne going through his paces. His manager said last week he wants the full-back to make a decision on his future inside 10 days with his contract set to expire next summer.

Jose Fonte performs a few leaps to warm those legs up. It's a fine day in Leicester, the pitch is immaculate, Leicester will take even the most ugly of wins and news of Sunderland's win at Everton will no doubt await their players when they return to the changing room.

  16. Who is Paulo Gazzinga?published at 14:43 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Southampton hand a first start of the season to goalkeeper Paulo Gazzinga as Kelvin Davis drops to the bench. His inclusion means Davis must wait for his 300th Saints appearance.

It has been over a year since Gazzinga played a competitive game for the club and in eight outings last season the 23-year-old kept just one clean sheet.

Always time for a selfie on his way into the ground but Andy King is still not fit to feature for a Leicester City side unchanged from their biggest win of the season last weekend.

Nigel Pearson keeps faith with the same XI which thrashed Newcastle but Southampton boss Ronald Koeman makes four changes as goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga gets a start - his first outing of the season - and Harrison Reed, Steven Davis and Eljero Elia come in.

Leicester City: Schmeichel, Morgan, James, Vardy, Albrighton, Huth, Schlupp, Cambiasso, Ulloa, Mahrez, Wasilewski.

Southampton: Gazzaniga, Clyne, Fonte (c), Alderweireld, Bertrand, Wanyama, Reed, S. Davis, Elia, Mane, Pelle.

  19. Ending with a whimper...published at 14:36 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Southampton by contrast may look back and long for winter. They'd love nothing more than a return to last summer too.

With just one win in five and just four in 14, defeat at home to relegation-threatened Sunderland last week angered manager Ronald Koeman.

"I'm not so happy about the last few weeks and we are always talking about the whole season," said Koeman in his weekly news conference.

"We need a good reaction after the poor game we showed last week. It's a difficult opponent Leicester, full of confidence, and we have to come back to our level."

Still, it's easy to lose perspective with the Saints. Let's not forget they only returned to the Premier League in 2012 and sold around £100m of key players last summer.
