Just looking through previous players of the tournament - you see some phenomenal names - Juan Mata, Petr Cech, Andrea Pirlo, Luis Figo, Davor Suker and Laurent Blanc.

The only teams to win this tournament since 1994 have been Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Netherlands and Germany - a few of them several times.

So how important is this tournament as a benchmark for the future of European football? Does this mean Portugal or Sweden are on the brink of greatness?

Portugal only make one change from their 5-0 semi-final demolition of Germany, London-born Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori coming back in after a thigh injury.

Sweden are, perhaps unsurprisingly, unchanged from the side who beat Denmark 4-1 in the last four.

Sweden: Carlgren, Lindelof, Milosevic, Helander, Augustinsson, Lewicki, Hiljemark, Khalili, Tibbling, Guidetti, Kiese Thelin.

Portugal: Sa, Esgaio, Raphael Guerreiro, Paulo Oliveira, Ilori, William, Sergio Oliveira, Joao Mario, Bernardo, Cavaleiro, Ricardo.

These sides met six days ago in the final round of Group B games and it ended in dramatic - and controversial - circumstances.

Sweden, facing elimination, equalised through Simon Tibbling's deflected strike with two minutes left to make it 1-1.

And with both teams realising they would definitely go through with the result, Portugal just passed the ball around unopposed for the closing stages as Italy were knocked out by the Swedes on head-to-head record.

    Sweden v Portugal (19:45 BST)

Neither Sweden nor Portugal have ever won this tournament before.

They have both played in one final, each losing to Italy. Tomas Brolin's Sweden lost 2-1 on aggregate in 1992 and Luis Figo's Portugal were beaten 1-0 two years later.

Portugal have won plenty of other Uefa underage competitions before, with four Under-16 or 17 crowns and two Under-18 titles. But Sweden have never won anything.

David De Gea. Alvaro Morata. Isco. Cesar Azpilicueta. Ander Herrera. Juan Mata. Manuel Neuer. Mesut Ozil. Sami Khedira.

All of these players have won the European Under-21 Championship in the past three editions.

But which set of players tonight will join that pantheon of greats?
