Despite the dip in quality in this game, the volume of the crowd has remained consistently loud, largely in support of the hosts. Imagine the sound of Chile get a winner in the next 10 minutes?

That sums up Lionel Messi's game. He picks up possession 35 yards from goal and turns before over-hitting a pass forward that goes straight out for a goal-kick.

A change each as Gonzalo Higuain comes on for the largely anonymous Sergio Aguero for Argentina and Chile send on Mati Fernandez for Jorge Valdivia.

Arturo Vidal is back on after his leg injury and drives in to the box before tumbling under a challenge. Penalty? No, says the referee.

Chile might have to make a change as well as Arturo Vidal is driven off the pitch on a cart having taken a blow to the leg.

Precious little quality on show now. The game has descended into fouls, arguing and time-wasting. It's a real shame as it started so promisingly. Looks like we're about to see Gonzalo Higuain for Argentina.

Down the other end and Alexis Sanchez beats a man down the right before crossing to the edge of the box fro Arturo Vidal, but his shot is blocked by a diving Argentine defender.

Is this Lionel Messi's chance to shine? He is over a free-kick, 25 yards from goal. He looks to curl it round the wall but strikes it to win a corner, which Claudio Bravo gets to with a punch.

The game has gone a bit stale now. Neither team look like fashioning anything decisive. Time for a change? He who dares wins Rodney.

Argentina come forward again and it looks promising for a moment as Pablo Zabaleta gets forward but his cross from the right is over-hit and drifts out for a goal-kick.

Argentina apply some concerted pressure courtesy of a couple of corners but Chile defend well to head off any danger. Literally.

Another yellow as Javier Mascherano dives to cut out a Mauricio Isla pass and handballs. It gives Chile a dangerous free-kick... which Charles Aranguiz wastes by failing to beat the first man with his swinging cross into the box.

The Argentina subs go through a vigorous warm-up. Of the two sides they are the ones in possession of the players who could come on and make a difference. Meanwhile, on the pitch, Marcos Rojo barges into Mauricio Isla and earns Argentina's first yellow card.

Arturo Vidal has done more in this half so far than he did in the entirety of the first half. He controls a ball forward on the edge of the box and feeds a team-mate, who wins Chile's first corner. They are unable to do anything with it, though, before Jorge Valdivia flicks a second corner wide of the near post.

Alexis Sanchez remains the most likely source for Chile. He collects the ball near halfway and darts towards the box with intent but his pass towards Arturo Vidal is cut out by a diving Argentina player.
