    Chile 0-0 Argentina

An early mistake from Nicolas Otamendia allows Alexis Sanchez to steal the ball, make his way to the right of the box and cross for Arturo Vidal to head straight into the hands of Sergio Romero from deep.

Very little to separate the sides in that first 45 minutes. There was plenty of effort but a distinct lack of quality in and around the box. Argentina need to get Messi on the ball more often, Chile need better delivery from the full-backs after they've charged into opposition territory.

Had a good chat with Peru's assistant coach Nolberto Solano before the final. The former Newcastle player gave us his team of the tournament. A slight Peru bias maybe? And what's Fernandinho doing there? Here is Nobby's selection... Bravo (Chi), Advincula (Per), Otamendi (Arg), Murillo (Col), Juan Vargas (Per), Mascherano (Arg), Fernandinho (Bra), Messi (Arg), Alexis Sanchez (Chi), Di Maria (Arg), Guerrero (Per).

And there is the whistle for half-time. No goals and a distinct lack of chances but it has been a very watchable game so far.

Great chance for Argentina's Ezequiel Lavezzi, who is set up on the edge of the box by a pull-back from the byline but his shot lacks precision and is punched away Claudio Bravo. Best move of the game, but still no goal.

Alexis Sanchez is as capable as anyone of breaking this deadlock. He has a chance with a curling effort from the left side of the box but it is too close to Sergio Romero, who saves.

Still no yellow card for an Argentina man as Jorge Valdivia is sent tumbling to the turf by Nicolas Otamendi. Much to the player and home fans' disgust.

  11. YELLOW CARDpublished at 43 mins

    Chile 0-0 Argentina

Another foul on Jorge Valdivia, another free-kick in a promising area for Chile. He shows three fingers to the referee to represent the fouls he has suffered without a booking. Marcelo Diaz delivers again but once more it comes to nothing as an Argentina head gets to the ball first. Argentina break and Messi is fouled by Diaz, earning him a yellow. Starting to get a bit tetchy now.

Five minutes until half-time and Chile go on the assault and win a free-kick courtesy of Lionel Messi's foul on Jorge Valdivia. Marcelo Diaz takes but Alexis Sanchez is caught offside in the box after going fractionally too early.

    Chile 0-0 Argentina

Lionel Messi's free-kick from a central position is headed behind for the game's first corner. Sergio Aguero meets the delivery at the back post and sends the ball looping back into the box, where it is met on the volley by a team-mate but blocked and cleared. No goals yet but this game is far from dull.

Not a big surprise that Gary Medel is into the book for a high tackle. It is surprising, though, that this is his first booking of the tournament.

    Chile 0-0 Argentina

Alexis Sanchez is away again, flicking the ball away from an Argentine player before finding Jean Beausejour. The full-backs cross finds Sanchez centrally, just inside the box but he can't get the ball under control to strike before it is cleared.

    Chile 0-0 Argentina

Chile's Alexis Sanchez has some serious skills. He takes on one, two, three men, beating each before finding a Jean Beausejour down the left. Unfortunately, the full-back is unable to do anything with possession. What a waste.

Di Maria departs to be replaced by Ezequiel Lavezzi of PSG. Not the worst replacement.
