Well, what a stormy end we had to the end of the domestic football season. Some might say it was typical of Scottish football to mar a great occasion with a bit of fisty cuffs at the end, but it didn't half make it exciting and will provide a fair few column inches in the coming days as the ramifications reverberate around Hampden, Fir Park and Ibrox.

HappyGa: "You beauties! Congrats to Well. What a championship next season. Hibs to win it!"

Doug Mac : Quality showed in both games."

James@drum: "Motherwell deserved the win so congrats. to be honest, over the season, Rangers never earned the right to mix it in the Premiership."

David Steel: "A decent couple of months can't make up for a whole season of crap, we didn't deserve it."

Eric Smith: "McCall - Not taking anything away from Motherwell, they were the better team, but three goals were deflections. LOL."

We are hearing that there have been three red cards issued by referee Craig Thomson after the final whistle. Not surprisingly, they are Rangers' Bilel Mohsni and Motherwell pair Lee Erwin and Fraser Kerr, the latter having rushed in to defend Erwin and having a hair-pulling tussle with the Tunisian.

Meanwhile, Richard Gordon on BBC Radio Scotland is reporting that Erwin is saying it sparked off when he offered his hand to Mohsni and was told where to go in no uncertain terms.

  5. Motherwell manager Ian Baraclough on BBC Radio Scotlandpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 31 May 2015

"There's a lot of emotions gone through in the last few weeks and you have to celebrate in some way.

"It would have been catastrophic to go down and have to build ourselves back up.

"The scoreline speaks for itself and the boys were absolutely magnificent.

"I don't know what went in there and we don't need that. There's been an outpouring of emotions and it has gone too far.

"For one or two individuals to tarnish it is a shame."

BBC Radio Scotland reporter Chick Young is saying it was mayhem in the tunnel after the final whistle as Bilel Mohsni was hauled away. He is saying that Rangers manager Stuart McCall also had an exchange of words with a Motherwell fan shouting at the Rangers player. Another humdrum day in Scottish football!

  8. Stuart McCall on his future as Rangers managerpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 31 May 2015

"I've enjoyed the last few months. If anyone said when I came in that we would still be playing today, I would have snapped it up.

"I think we have done a decent job and it just hasn't been good enough.

"Recruitment is going to be key next season. My past record shows that I can recruit people and get the best out of them.

"The scouting network is non-existent and a head of recruitment is essential."

Stuart McCall making it clear that he wants to continue in the job but perhaps hinting that he thinks he has a fight on his hand to convince his employers, who said they would revue the situation at the end of the season.

  9. Rangers manager Stuart McCall on BBC Radio Scotlandpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 31 May 2015

"Everyone will remember the last 30 minutes, but the important thing was the all important first goal.

"It was a wicked deflection and Cammy was unable to deal with it.

"If you see it, it was just unfortunate. A lucky goal, not down to anything from the players. That killed us.

"I am not taking anything away from Motherwell, they were the better team over the two games, but three of the goals were deflections."

That sad finish to the game almost overshadowed the fact that Motherwell have extended their 30-year stay in the Scottish top flight. They never approached the quality they had in previous seasons, but it was still enough to secure a deserved win over Rangers.

Rangers must rebuild in a second attempt to escape the Championship.

Colin Hunter: "Why is anyone surprised by Motherwell result? Motherwell are the premiership team..better quality."

William McGrath: "32 in the sun and Motherwell winning, free bar in hotel, life does not get any better?"

James Taylor: "Hope Motherwell go bust. If they can afford to throw away money with all they empty seats. Tit for tat? Idiots."

  13. BBC Radio Scotland pundit Derek Fergusonpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 31 May 2015

"To react like that, there are no excuses. Mohsni is an embarrassment. I don't know why Stuart McCall put him on as he has been a liability this season."

Disgraceful scenes at the final whistle as Rangers substitute Bilel Mohsni clashes in an ugly scene with Motherwell striker Lee Erwin, After what seems like an exchange of words, Erwin pushes Mohsni in the back and the Tunisian reacts by launches a kick then a punch at the Motherwell man's head. There's then a good old-fashioned stramash by a group of players as Motherwell fans invade the pitch to celebrate.

Andrew The Plane: "Rangers have shown no character of a top side. Their drab performance epitomises years of failure."

Gordon: "Won't be any easier next year with Hibs or Rangers aiming for automatic promotion one of them could face third season out."

The official attendance is 9,220 at Fir Park. The stand behind one of the goals is empty because of the club's decision to limit the number of Rangers fans in response to the lack of tickets given to Motherwell fans at Ibrox. The home club will probably say they were justified in losing some revenue to not only make a point but also limit the backing Rangers have had at Fir Park.
