Thanks for your company today. Follow the website for more on that rammy at Fir Park and join us again for live coverage of Scotland's friendly against Qatar from Easter Road on 5 June.

  2. Post update

Well, what a stormy end we had to the end of the domestic football season. Some might say it was typical of Scottish football to mar a great occasion with a bit of fisty cuffs at the end, but it didn't half make it exciting and will provide a fair few column inches in the coming days as the ramifications reverberate around Hampden, Fir Park and Ibrox.

Jackie Burnett: "How unprofessional stewards needed to separate players. Shocking finish."

Euan Wilkinson: "Sutton scores in the 90th as Rangers concede their 6th goal. That takes me back 15 years."

    Strachanovich: "Scottish football salutes Motherwell."

HappyGa: "You beauties! Congrats to Well. What a championship next season. Hibs to win it!"

Doug Mac : Quality showed in both games."

Gareth Brennan: ""Stramash" Surely tops any list of words that simply do not get used enough in journalism."

James@drum: "Motherwell deserved the win so congrats. to be honest, over the season, Rangers never earned the right to mix it in the Premiership."

David Steel: "A decent couple of months can't make up for a whole season of crap, we didn't deserve it."

Eric Smith: "McCall - Not taking anything away from Motherwell, they were the better team, but three goals were deflections. LOL."

  4. Post update

We are hearing that there have been three red cards issued by referee Craig Thomson after the final whistle. Not surprisingly, they are Rangers' Bilel Mohsni and Motherwell pair Lee Erwin and Fraser Kerr, the latter having rushed in to defend Erwin and having a hair-pulling tussle with the Tunisian.

Meanwhile, Richard Gordon on BBC Radio Scotland is reporting that Erwin is saying it sparked off when he offered his hand to Mohsni and was told where to go in no uncertain terms.

  5. Motherwell manager Ian Baraclough on BBC Radio Scotland

"There's a lot of emotions gone through in the last few weeks and you have to celebrate in some way.

"It would have been catastrophic to go down and have to build ourselves back up.

"The scoreline speaks for itself and the boys were absolutely magnificent.

"I don't know what went in there and we don't need that. There's been an outpouring of emotions and it has gone too far.

"For one or two individuals to tarnish it is a shame."

  6. Post update

BBC Radio Scotland reporter Chick Young is saying it was mayhem in the tunnel after the final whistle as Bilel Mohsni was hauled away. He is saying that Rangers manager Stuart McCall also had an exchange of words with a Motherwell fan shouting at the Rangers player. Another humdrum day in Scottish football!

  7. Post update

  8. Stuart McCall on his future as Rangers manager

"I've enjoyed the last few months. If anyone said when I came in that we would still be playing today, I would have snapped it up.

"I think we have done a decent job and it just hasn't been good enough.

"Recruitment is going to be key next season. My past record shows that I can recruit people and get the best out of them.

"The scouting network is non-existent and a head of recruitment is essential."

Stuart McCall making it clear that he wants to continue in the job but perhaps hinting that he thinks he has a fight on his hand to convince his employers, who said they would revue the situation at the end of the season.

  9. Rangers manager Stuart McCall on BBC Radio Scotland

"Everyone will remember the last 30 minutes, but the important thing was the all important first goal.

"It was a wicked deflection and Cammy was unable to deal with it.

"If you see it, it was just unfortunate. A lucky goal, not down to anything from the players. That killed us.

"I am not taking anything away from Motherwell, they were the better team over the two games, but three of the goals were deflections."

  10. Post update

Motherwell players are coming back out on to the pitch for rousing reception from their fans.

  11. Post update

That sad finish to the game almost overshadowed the fact that Motherwell have extended their 30-year stay in the Scottish top flight. They never approached the quality they had in previous seasons, but it was still enough to secure a deserved win over Rangers.

Rangers must rebuild in a second attempt to escape the Championship.

  12. Get involved at BBC Sport Scotland Facebook

Colin Hunter: "Why is anyone surprised by Motherwell result? Motherwell are the premiership team..better quality."

William McGrath: "32 in the sun and Motherwell winning, free bar in hotel, life does not get any better?"

James Taylor: "Hope Motherwell go bust. If they can afford to throw away money with all they empty seats. Tit for tat? Idiots."

  13. BBC Radio Scotland pundit Derek Ferguson

"To react like that, there are no excuses. Mohsni is an embarrassment. I don't know why Stuart McCall put him on as he has been a liability this season."

  14. Post update

FT: Motherwell 3-0 Rangers (Agg: 6-1)

Disgraceful scenes at the final whistle as Rangers substitute Bilel Mohsni clashes in an ugly scene with Motherwell striker Lee Erwin, After what seems like an exchange of words, Erwin pushes Mohsni in the back and the Tunisian reacts by launches a kick then a punch at the Motherwell man's head. There's then a good old-fashioned stramash by a group of players as Motherwell fans invade the pitch to celebrate.

  15. Post update

FT: Motherwell 3-0 Rangers (Agg: 6-1)

  16. GOAL

Motherwell 3-0 Rangers (John Sutton, pen)

Well finish with a flurry, with Lee Erwin being pulled down by Lee Wallace and John Sutton scores from the penalty spot.

Hazel Gilluley: "M'well have every right to celebrate a good win. Outclassed Rangers despite the gulf in budgets. A great team performance."

Andrew The Plane: "Rangers have shown no character of a top side. Their drab performance epitomises years of failure."

Gordon: "Won't be any easier next year with Hibs or Rangers aiming for automatic promotion one of them could face third season out."

  18. Post update

    Motherwell 2-0 Rangers (Agg 5-1)

Rangers midfielder Andy Murdoch fires a powerful effort that George Long saves. The first threat to the goalkeeper in the second half.

  19. Post update

    Motherwell 2-0 Rangers (Agg 5-1)

The official attendance is 9,220 at Fir Park. The stand behind one of the goals is empty because of the club's decision to limit the number of Rangers fans in response to the lack of tickets given to Motherwell fans at Ibrox. The home club will probably say they were justified in losing some revenue to not only make a point but also limit the backing Rangers have had at Fir Park.

Lee Hannah: "Motherwell deserve to stay up. This Rangers squad would struggle against relegation. A full overhaul is thoroughly needed."

Dougie Kinnear: "To be fair, Stuart McCall said last year he would do his best to keep Motherwell in the Top Flight! Mission Accomplished!" Cruel!

  21. BBC Radio Scotland pundit Mark McGhee

"One thing you have to say is that this result shows the difference in quality between the Championship and the Premiership."

  22. YELLOW CARD

    Motherwell 2-0 Rangers (Agg 5-1)

Rangers right-back Ricky Foster is a lucky boy. He has had a torrid time in the second half and gets away with a yellow card after a blatant kick that halts Marvin Johnson in his tracks.

  23. Post update

    Motherwell 2-0 Rangers (Agg 5-1)

Motherwell substitute John Sutton goes close to increase the lead, but the striker's low shot is saved by Cammy Bell after it almost slips under the goalkeeper's body.

  24. BBC Radio Scotland pundit Derek Ferguson

"Rangers have come up short. There are some tired legs after six games in 22 days. The one thing you can't say about Stuart McCall's team is that they haven't worked their socks off."

Craig Williamson: "Rangers an embarrassment to the Championship. Wrong team in the final."

5iveTimes: "Traffic Scotland reporting potential delays in the Ibrox area adding at least a year to your journey."

Image caption: Marvin Johnson has had a hand in both Motherwell goals against Rangers
  27. GOAL

    Motherwell 2-0 Rangers (Lionel Ainsworth)

It is all over now. Marvin Johnson again rampages down the Rangers right and lays it on a plate for Lionel Ainsworth and the winger's shot from the edge of the penalty box takes a deflection - off hapless Marius Zaliukas - once more and past the despairing Cammy Bell.

  28. Post update

    Motherwell 1-0 Rangers (Agg 4-1)

Haris Vuckic has sprung to life with a curling effort from 18 yards, but it is straight at goalkeeper George Long. But it all seems too late.

    Grant Steven: "Dodgy Keeper!"

Tom Gardner: "Comical goalkeeping by the Rangers custodian. That should really go down as Bell o.g."

  30. Post update

    Motherwell 1-0 Rangers (Agg 4-1)

Haris Vuckic has been disappointing for Rangers, the on-loan Newcastle United midfielder failing to stamp his quality on the game. However, he fires in a dangerous low cross that Josh Law almost deflects into his own net.

  31. Post update

    Motherwell 1-0 Rangers (Agg 4-1)

Captain Lee McCulloch looks to inspire Rangers with an athletic hitch-kick from a corner, but his effort flies a couple of feet over the crossbar following a corner.

  32. Post update

    Motherwell 1-0 Rangers (Agg 4-1)

Another change for Rangers as Kris Boyd is hauled off - perhaps a sad end to the record scorer's Rangers career - with Nicky Clark taking his place up front.

  34. Post update

    Motherwell 1-0 Rangers (Agg 4-1)

Rangers manager Stuart McCall makes a quick change, with Tom Walsh replacing Shane Ferguson.

  35. GOAL

    Motherwell 1-0 Rangers (Marvin Johnson)

Cammy Bell fails to keep out a deflected strike

Howler alert! A shot from Marvin Johnson from 18 yards takes a wicked deflection and flies high towards the Rangers goal. Backtracking goalkeeper Cammy Bell ought to have gathered easily, but he makes an awkward swipe at it with his right arm and instead punches it into the back of his own net.

  36. YELLOW CARD

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Scott McDonald is the first Motherwell player to be booked after a late challenge on Haris Vuckic.

  37. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Richard Foster is having a nightmare. Moments after a poor pass back, the right-back is dispossessed by Marvin Johnson but manages to rescue the situation with a tackle inside the area that concedes a corner.

  38. KICK-OFF

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Motherwell kick off in the Lanarkshire sunshine and, unless Rangers can change the course of events, we are 45 minutes away from the status quo - the Glasgow side remaining in the Championship and the Fir Park outfit extending their 30-year stay in Scotland top flight.

  39. Post update

    Richard Wilson

    BBC Scotland at Fir Park

"It has been a riveting, and firefly-contested, at Fir Park but little quality or composure. Rangers need to deliver more crosses to put the Motherwell defence under pressure, while the home side need to bring Ainsworth and Johnson into the game more."

  40. BBC Radio Scotland pundit Mark McGhee

"Of the two managers, Stuart McCall will be the more pleased. He will say keep this tempo, Kris Boyd has one or two chances. I can see Rangers winning this game, but can they win it by two goals? I don't know."

  41. BBC Radio Scotland pundit Derek Ferguson

"Rangers have just got too excited in and around the area. It is how I thought it would be, tight and exciting. The quality is probably not there, but you are on the edge of your seat."

  43. Post update

HT: Motherwell 0-0 Rangers (agg 3-1)

Rangers left-back Lee Wallace is challenged by Stephen Pearson

Rangers have had the bulk of the territory but have failed to capitalise on a nervous home side. The Glasgow side have lacked composure and their best chances have come from high balls lumped agriculturally into the Well penalty box.

The home side have worked their way into the game and probably have come closest to scoring.

  44. Post update

HT: Motherwell 0-0 Rangers (agg 3-1)

  45. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Haris Vuckic finds Kris Boyd at the back post, but the striker heads wide of the Motherwell near post.

  46. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Motherwell striker Scott McDonald lives dangerously with what looks like a challenge from behind that sends Kenny Miller flying inside the penalty box. The Australian wins the ball, which is probably whey there was no whistle and finger pointed to the penalty spot.

  47. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Marius Zaliukas is having a nightmare for Rangers and blasts high over the crossbar after the ball falls to the central defender at the back post from a corner.

  48. CLOSE!

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Lee Johnson flashes a curling drive just wide of the far post from just outside the penalty box as the Motherwell midfielder goes close to opening the scoring.

  49. YELLOW CARD

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Rangers captain Lee McCulloch is the next man in referee Craig Thomson's book as he clatters Scott McDonald as he tries to rescue the situation after his own poor control.

  50. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Motherwell are beginning to exert some pressure of their own and Stephen McManus is found unmarked by a Marvin Johnson free-kick, but the centre-half heads wide with goalkeeper Cammy Bell left exposed and unhappy at his defence.

  51. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Lee Erwin is the main danger for the home side and the big striker flashes a shot across the face of goal from 16 yards.

  52. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

A Motherwell fans' brolly strikes former Well man Lee McCulloch on the face as they attempt to retrieve a ball on the touchline. That could have been a nasty one. The fan is left remonstrating with a steward.

  53. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Motherwell striker Scott McDonald is inches from making contact on a low Lionel Ainsworth cross into the six-yard box as the home side at last threaten at the other end.

  54. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

A shot on the turn from Haris Vuckic is blocked by a Motherwell leg just 12 yards from goal before the pressure is eased by a foul on defender Stephen McManus as Rangers continue to press.

  55. YELLOW CARD

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Rangers midfielder Andy Murdoch flies into a challenge on Stevie Hammell. The 20-year-old escapes with a booking when some referees could have pulled out the red.

  56. BBC Radio Scotland pundit Derek Ferguson

"It is the same as Thursday, Rangers on top, creating a few chances, but Motherwell hit them with the sucker punch. Is the same thing going to happen today?"

  57. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Rangers are doing all the attacking, having most of the possession, but they have not entered the Well net despite knocking on the door and a fine cross from Richard Foster just evades Kris Boyd in front of goal.

  58. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

This time, it was Motherwell midfielder Stephen Pearson who doesn't hold back and his lunging challenge leaves Rangers full-back Lee Wallace with a sore foot and a free-kick.

  59. BBC Radio Scotland pundit Derek Ferguson

"You can see how aggressive Rangers are. In 50-50s, they aint holding back."

  62. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Motherwell finally find themselves in Rangers' end of the pitch - and win their first corner. Marius Zaliukas looks winded by the ricochet off his chest, but Rangers can breath a sigh of relief as the ball flies well over the home attack.

Motherwell have made a nervous start and Louis Laing's poor back header gives Kris Boyd a sight at goal, but the striker shoots wide from 20 yards.

  65. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Stevie Hammell has to hook the ball clear in front of his own goal as Kenny Miller prepares to pounce inside the Well six-yard box.

  66. BBC Radio Scotland pundit Mark McGhee

"Motherwell aren't here because they have been successful. Stuart McCall knows that and knows that they could buckle under pressure."

  67. Post update

    Motherwell 0-0 Rangers

Shane Ferguson crosses early and long into the Motherwell penalty box. Kris Boyd rises above the home defence, but his header is straight at the goalkeeper.

  68. Post update

Kris Boyd wins a free-kick and has a pop from 25 yards, but his effort is blocked and Motherwell clear the early pressure.

  71. Post update

    Pearson problem?

There is a bit of concern for the fitness of Motherwell midfielder Stephen Pearson. He picked up a hamstring problem on Thursday but was included in the starting line-up. However, he has been receiving some treatment close to kick-off.

  72. Post update

    Richard Wilson

    BBC Scotland at Fir Park

"Both managers have taken risks at Fir Park. Stephen Pearson and Steven Hammell have injury concerns; Shane Ferguson and Kris Boyd come from the periphery into the Rangers' starting line-up. The visitors need to try to impose themselves if they are to overcome a two-goal deficit and Motherwell know that one goal could tip the balance of the tie wholly in their favour. It is all to play for, so much at stake, and potential match winners on both sides."

"I saw enough the other night. We controlled the game for the first 25 minutes and they got deflected goal and we got edgy.

Former Motherwell midfielder Nicky Law, now at Rangers, and younger brother Josh, who followed him to Fir Park, share a flat. But one of them will return home disappointed after today's final whistle. Who will get the top bunk tonight?

  87. Post update

There are lots of sideshows at Fir Park today, of course. Should Rangers win on aggregate, manager Stuart McCall will be relegating the side he managed for four season until resigning in December. Ian Baraclough has been unable to improve on the second bottom place he inherited but could deny his predecessor promotion and put in further doubt his chances of continuing as Rangers boss.

  88. Post update

Motherwell's victory on Thursday was the first time they had got the better of Rangers in 39 meetings since 2002. The Glasgow side have, however, won on their last four visits to Fir Park, albeit the last one was in 2012.

Three of those victories were by three or more goals - which would be enough for an aggregate win should that be repeated today.

  89. Post update

Rangers will also have to do better than in the second legs of the two play-off matches that led to the final. Against Queen of the South, they were held 1-1 at home but progressed thanks to the 2-1 lead they established in Dumfries. In the semi-final, they lost 1-0 to Hibs but progressed because of their 2-0 win at Ibrox.

  90. Post update

If Rangers are to win promotion, they must end Motherwell's run of seven home games without defeat. Ian Baraclough's side have not lost at Fir Park since Dundee left with a 1-0 win on 21 February.

    Well unchanged

Motherwell manager Ian Baraclough names an unchanged side. That means that experienced full-back Stevie Hammell and veteran former Scotland midfielder Stephen Pearson have recovered have recovered from knocks picked up in the first leg.

  94. Post update

    Rangers changes

Speculation had suggesting that 37-year-old Rangers captain Lee McCulloch would return to Stuart McCall's starting line-up up front - against the club with whom he began his career before going on to grace the English top flight with Wigan Athletic and win 18 Scotland caps.

Instead, it appears that the veteran will be a straight swap for the suspended Darren McGregor in the centre of defence. That is one of three changes in Stuart McCall's side, with on-loan Newcastle United winger Shane Ferguson and off-form former Scotland striker Kris Boyd starting in place of Dean Shiels and Nicky Clark.

Neither of today's protagonists have had a good enough season to vie for the title of Scotland's team of the season. Who would your choice be?

Celtic, who retained the Scottish Premiership title and lifted the League Cup? Caley Thistle, who lifted the Scottish Cup for the first time and finished a best-ever third in the top flight? Aberdeen, who gave Celtic a chase before finishing second? Hearts, who swatted away the challenge of Rangers and neighbours Hibernian to run away with the Championship title? Gordon Strachan's national side for keeping in the hunt for Euro 2016 qualification? Or maybe you might think rugby side Glasgow Warriors' first victory in the final of the Pro12 last night overshadows anything achieved by our football sides?

However, it is back to league business today and the final jigsaw in next season's Scottish Premiership and Championship line-ups.
