Dimitri Payet is looking a very useful player for West Ham, some nice touches and intelligent runs. One such foray forward ends with his shot deflecting off Laurent Koscielny and behind for a corner, from which Mauro Zarate shoots harmlessly wide.

Gibbo: Oxlade-Chamberlain is going to be some player!

Peter Eakin: Coquelin will be looking to show he's more than just a destroyer this season, already evident in this first game.

Arsenal are cranking it up as the woodwork keeps them at bay. 

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is once again involved, flicking the ball back to Aaron Ramsey just outside the area. The midfielder shoots and his effort deflects off the back of Aaron Cresswell and over Adrian, but onto the bar.

Brilliant from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain! 

The winger picks up the ball just inside his own half and switches on the afterburners, charging forward and causing panicking West Ham players to almost trip over their own feet. 

Oxlade-Chamberlain gets down to the byeline and lifts a cross to Santi Cazorla, who attempts to cushion a volley over the goalkeeper, but the ball lands on the roof of the net.

A perfect start to the season for the Saints, even with manager Ronald Koeman absent due to injury, as Graziano Pelle heads them into the lead.

Francis Coquelin charges past his marker as Arsenal attempt to fashion another attack, he crosses for Olivier Giroud but his volley is blocked.

Olivier Giroud is everywhere but inside the West Ham area. He finds himself wide left and under pressure from James Tomkins, who resorts to fouling the Arsenal striker. 

Santi Cazorla sends in the resulting free-kick, it is headed away by Diafra Sakho but only as far as Per Mertesacker. The defender outwits the West Ham defence with a cheeky bit of skill, flicking the ball behind his marker, but also surprises himself as the ball rolls out of play.

But this is better from West Ham as Dimitri Payet does superbly to keep Aaron Cresswell's raking pass in play. He then flicks a cross into the area for Diafra Sakho but his volley is no trouble for Petr Cech.

After a tenacious start, a couple of yellows have seen West Ham adopt a more cautious approach now and Arsenal are seeing more of the ball, but not really doing a great deal with it in the final third.

Arsenal are just starting to take hold of this game now and win a free-kick wide left. Santi Cazorla pings it into the box and Per Mertesacker flicks a header on for Laurent Koscielny, who nods wide. 

It wouldn't have counted if he got it on target, though, with both players offside.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a belter in the Community Shield and he is clearly in confident mood as he connects with Winston Reid's weak clearance, his volley is sweetly struck, but just over.

Laurent Koscielny directs a looping header goalwards but it is wide. First real chance of the game so far in a somewhat subdued opening.

West Ham are getting stuck in, too much for Martin Atkinson's liking and he dishes out a couple of early yellows.

Mark Noble is the first in the book for a strong challenge on Francis Coquelin, Angelo Ogbonna then smacks into Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and is also shown a yellow.
