"Newcastle had a terrible start but they've grown into the game since. For the first 15 minutes you thought this was going to be a good hiding. But now they're closing down well, pinching balls off Manchester United and are trying to break. 

"Steve McClaren is kicking every ball on the sidelines. His side have hit the bar with a header, had a couple of corners... They need to keep this tempo up now." 

The early zip and pace has gone from the game as Newcastle look very organised and Manchester United look short of ideas. Newcastle's attacks are based on the old faithful - hit the big man and work from there.

Looking like a goalless first half.

An early goal in the other early game as Sheffield Wednesday take the lead in Leeds. A cracker too as  Marco Matias  beats the Leeds offside trap before flicking it over Charlie Taylor's head and crashing in an unstoppable volley past Leeds keeper Marco Silvestri from 18 yards.

The game is opening up now. Seconds after Newcastle hit the bar, Manchester United go close as Memphis Depay rounds international team-mate Tim Krul but the angle is acute and he can't get a shot away. He tries to find Wayne Rooney in the middle but it's cut out. Decent game. Goal coming?

What an effort! A header that Alan Shearer, Duncan Ferguson or Sir Les Ferdinand would be proud of!

Newcastle have barely had a touch in the opposition half but out of nothing Aleksandar Mitrovic gets way above the United defence to fire a header from 15 yards against the frame of the goal. Belting effort. You'll go far son.

"Manchester United have started very brightly, there's a great tempo. It's all them - their movement has been fantastic. Newcastle are just trying to do a job at the minute, trying to hold them off. They're looking stale - whenever they do get the ball they give it straight back. They're all over the shop."   

A tidy start for Manchester United, but no real threat yet apart from that offside goal for Wayne Rooney - who looked level at worst. Harshly done by perhaps.

Juan Mata hits a free-kick over the wall but Tim Krul easily catches it. 

Plenty of pace from Memphis Depay in the early stages - but he's got nothing on this lot.

The Magpies haven't lost eight successive league games away from home since a run of nine away losses in October 1977.
