"Louis van Gaal will not admit it but he's lacking a proper number nine. There's no doubt about it. In the final third Manchester United have let themselves down.

"The priority is a number nine and if he doesn't get one Man Utd will be struggling big time this season."

"An unbelievable end to the game. Manchester United were knocking on the door really hard, but give Newcastle credit. They defended well.

"Steve McClaren was kicking every ball on the sidelines and he'll be delighted with a point."

Frantic finish. Newcastle were brave. Manchester United were frustrated.

"Incredible. Straight after Chris Smalling's header comes off the post Newcastle get into the 18-yard box for pretty much the first time. Florian Thauvin slides in but he just couldn't get his foot on it." 

Incredible scenes at both ends. 

Manchester United win a corner and Chris Smalling heads against the post. The ball rebounds out and Newcastle break.

Papiss Cisse fizzes the ball across the six-yard area but new signing Florian Thauvin at full stretch just fails to connect.

"Great save by Tim Krul. Javier Hernandez was one-on-one with the Newcastle goalkeeper and he went early, but Krul got down there well to make the block. 

"We haven't seen much going forward from Newcastle, but they've been defending very well. They look happy to sit back and wait for a counter."

Huge moment. Tim Krul has not had too much to do but the Newcastle keeper produces the save of the game to keep out Javier Hernandez's attempt after the Manchester United substitute got behind the visitors defence. 

Manchester United have found another gear. They are peppering the Newcastle goal in the closing stages and even Luke Shaw has had a go. Antonio Valencia comes on for Matteo Darmian.

Chance for Manchester United but Juan Mata blazes over moments after Wayne Rooney's goal-bound effort is blocked by Steven Taylor. Can the hosts find a late winner?

"Florian Thauvin's a very cultured player, he's got a lovely left foot. He's got a trick, he's not quick but is great on the ball and can go past players. I hope we see the best of him in England. You want him in the attacking half of the field, rather than doing a full-back's job."  

Newcastle are going for this. New winger Florian Thauvin is on for Gabriel Obertan. What can the Toon's new £12m man do?

Wayne Rooney stays on as Adnan Januzaj makes way for Javier Hernandez. We're in the last quarter of the game. Newcastle are looking good for what would be their second point of the season.

"I wouldn't be surprised to see Wayne Rooney subbed, if Louis van Gaal wants to bring on Javier Hernandez, who's been warming up on the sidelines. 

"Rooney has had a couple of shots, but Memphis Depay looks like he's got a goal in him and Adnan Januzaj doesn't look like tiring."

Tim Krul has had little to do this second half. Memphis Depay tries his luck from distance and earns a corner but it's cleared before a red shirt can get on the end of it.
