Claudemir goes into the book as he tugs on the shirt of Ander Herrera in the centre circle.

Club Brugge 0-1 Man United (1-4 agg)

    Abdoulay DiabyImage source, Reuters

    Club Brugge should be level.

Abdoulay Diaby is clean through on Sergio Romero with team-mates either side of him and the chance to shoot for either corner.

He contrives to waste the opening, attempting to round the keeper and allowing Romero to smother at his feet.

    Tom De SutterImage source, Reuters

Club Brugge with a quickfire trio of chances, but none of them stick for the equaliser.

Tom De Sutter first lacks the pace to make the most of a route to goal, then Daley Blind's tentative header almost ends up in his own net before Davy De Fauw glances a side-foot effort wide from the resulting corner.

    Memphis DepayImage source, Reuters

Attempting to make up for missed chances, Memphis Depay takes on a shot from 20 yards. That one is tamed by a big deflection though and goalkeeper Sinan Bolat scoops it up with ease.

Memphis Depay looks like he could do with a quick ego massage at half-time.

The United man is played into a pocket of space in the penalty area by Adnan Januzaj, but again he hesitates and attempts to cut inside when he should be pulling the trigger.

A little short of confidence perhaps...

Memphis Depay was one-on-one with the Club Brugge keeper but waited far too long and that gave the defender time to get across and block his shot.

  7. CLOSE!published at 33 mins

Club Brugge 0-1 Man United (agg 1-4)

Memphis Depay's pick-and-mix of quality and profligacy continues.

The Dutchman seems to be clean through as he barges Jean-Charles Castelleto out of the way and scampers goalwards.

But he dwadles when it comes to the actual scoring part and Oscar Duarte is able to get across and make a recovery challenge. He should never have got near Depay.

Things go from bad to worse for Everton.

A big old-fashioned lump into the penalty area and goalkeeper Joel Robles comes and fails to claim.

    Marley Watkins takes advantage.

  10. De Bruyne signs for City - reportspublished at 20:14

Meanwhile the transfer dealings stop for no man or match.

While city rivals United are securing their Champions League spot, Manchester City have apparently tied up a deal for Wolfsburg's Kevin de Bruyne.

Bild are reporting that they have agreed a £58m fee. Fifty. Eight. Million. Pounds.

    Crikey.

  11. goal

GOALpublished at 20:10 British Summer Time 26 August 2015

Barnsley 1-0 Everton - Sam Winnall (22 mins)

This is ugly for Everton defence. And Chelsea target John Stones is at the centre of the mess.

The Toffees fails to clear, with a couple of fresh-air swipes allowing Sam Winnall to seize possession and drill low and hard into the corner.

That is £3m knocked off Chelsea's bid tomorrow morning.

Memphis Depay plays a delightful little reverse pass to Wayne Rooney and it is an instinctive finish from him as he dinks it over the on-rushing keeper. Who knows how he would have taken that chance if he had time to think about it. It's tie over now, simple as that.

Game over? Certainly goal drought over.

Wayne Rooneyscores his first goal of the season as Memphis Depay slips a lovely reverse ball into the England man's feet and he stubs a cute finish over the advancing Sinan Bolat from 10 yards.

Rooney celebrates with a relieved point to the heavens. He had not scored in his previous 10 club games.

A mix-up between Luke Shaw and Mephis Depay sees the latter chip the ball straight out of play as he anticipates a run that never came from the full-back.

Jeers and ironic cheers from the home fans.

When Wayne Rooney makes those runs to the sides there is no centre-forward for him to hit in the box. Rooney wants the ball and when he drops to try and get it there is no-one running beyond him for him to find.

Ander Herrera is bookedImage source, AFP

Butter wouldn't melt for Ander Herrera, but the Spanish choirboy has caught Brugge captain Victor Vazquez with a heavy challenge.

    Into the book he goes.

  19. Postpublished at 12mins

Club Brugge 0-0 Man United (1-3 agg)

Manchester United are working into this game nicely.

Juan Mata again gets busy on the fringes of the penalty area, the ball loops up invitingly for Wayne Rooney, but his Mark-Hughes-style hip-high volley balloons over.

I'd like to see Manchester United go and kill this game off. Don't go too cavalier, but go and get that goal that puts this game to bed.
