    Man City 6-1 Newcastle

A bit more from Manuel Pellegrini: "I always say it is important to be the leader on the table but we must be at the top in May. It was important to come back with a victory and not drop points at home. In November we play five games at home so this gives trust to the players."

    League Two

Plymouth supplant Wycombe at the top of League Two after they beat Crawley 2-1, while the Chairboys lost 3-2 to Northampton.

Leyton Orient climb to third after a 3-1 win over Notts County, while Portsmouth slip back to fourth after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Yeovil.

That result ensures Yeovil remain just above the relegation zone, which is still occupied by Dagenham and Redbridge, who lost 4-3 to Mansfield, and Newport, who drew 1-1 with Exeter.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini: "I am very happy because that was the reaction of a team who normally wants to play in this style. We want to try to score the most amount of goals.

"I like to see my teams play in this way - not just score one goal or when we get the second just go back. I think it is important for fans to see a team scoring and enjoying the game.

"It was very important for us to be 1-1 before we finished the first half. I said at half time we needed to be a little calmer.

"Sergio Aguero is different. In other games he was maybe having a lot of chances but not scoring, but today he returned to his normal amount of chances he creates but this time he scored.

"He was not upset about going off. He was having treatment at half time and it was a risk for him to finish the whole game."

  7. Is he staying?published at 17:25 British Summer Time 3 October 2015

    Sunderland 2-2 West Ham

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat on his future: "I don't want to give an answer. Today I am the manager, what will happen in the next weeks, months, I cannot say."

Asked if he will be manager for the next game, he added: "I cannot say that. The newspapers have to have something to write otherwise there is nothing in the newspapers."

  8. Sparky delightpublished at 17:21

    Aston Villa 0-1 Stoke

Stoke boss Mark Hughes: "I was pleased with what we produced, it was a performance that we have been looking for. The first half was some of the best stuff we have played in terms of controlling the game.

"In the second half, we knew they would come at us, but we defended really well.

"I thought Marko Arnautovic was excellent today, offensively and defensively. He puts a shift in. It wasn't an easy chance, but thankfully he took it.

"t would have been hard to take had we not taken maximum points today, but we have a lot of time to prepare for the next game at Swansea."

  9. Aguero blew Newcastle awaypublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 3 October 2015

    Man City 6-1 Newcastle

    Guy Mowbray
BBC Match of the Day commentator at the Etihad

"It all happened so quickly, it was the second time in 11 days one of the world's best strikers scored five in a game.

"Aguero was magnificent - he equalised for City in the 42nd minute but Newcastle had played well, they had chances, should have been more than one in front but for a Joe Hart save.

"But after the break Aguero blew them away. The goals seemed to get better the fourth was a beauty. He is an absolute superstar and the reason City ripped them apart.

"A small note about the Newcastle fans who were in good spirits during the game but were not happy when the players did not come over to them at the end."

Leicester goalscorer Jeffrey Schlupp: "We deserved the three points. It was a penalty, we looked at it at half time on the laptop.

"Jamie Vardy is never shy to step up. We knew how fast they would come out in the second half. We countered them and got the goal when we did so it helped us settle the match."

  13. On his way out?published at 17:11

    Sunderland 2-2 West Ham

  14. Player reactionpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 3 October 2015

    Sunderland 2-2 West Ham

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher on whether the uncertainty about Dick Advocaat’s future had affected the team: “Not at all. The gaffer has been the same as usual, we have been working hard in training to get a performance like that. The first half we could have had a few more goals and we were unlucky to concede close to half-time so on that behalf we showed we had a fighting spirit.”

West Ham goalscorer Carl Jenkinson: “We have done well to get back in the game, of course the way game went when they had a man sent off we should have got the three points but it’s not easy against 10 men. Our first goal changed the game and there was only one team that was going to win it in the second half, but we knew it was going to be a tough game.”
