A good spell for Liverpool, this, but there is nothing at the end of it as Adam Lallana dances into the area but cannot get a cross or a shot away.

The camera pans to tennis legend Boris Becker, who is in the crowd at White Hart Lane today. Another Klopp fan?

"Not a penalty for me - Adam Lallana just lost his balance and fell over."

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Adam Lallana goes to ground in the right-hand corner of the area and wants a penalty. He has certainly made himself heard today, but sadly for the Liverpool forward, referee Craig Pawson is not convinced by the incident or Lallana's loud appeals.

"This is the Mousa Dembele I know and love. He hasn't produced this form often enough in a Tottenham shirt but he's been far and away their best player today."

Huge smile from Jurgen Klopp as Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris is chased down and forced into a hurried clearance. He likes that. And then another grin as he has a chat with Mauricio Pochettino after the Spurs boss had furiously disputed a decision.

Nick UTA: Liverpool utterly toothless up front and wobbly at the back. Klopp has a lot of work to do.

Kewku Adaboh: Origi is not, and will not be, a Liverpool goalscorer.

Dan: A German man called Klopp / Said the rubbish must stop / He kept stressing / A game of high pressing / Now he's the hero of the Kop.

National Poetry Day, external was last week, Dan. Sadly.

Liverpool's James Milner does well to nip in and win possession by the half-way line but Tottenham's Moussa Dembele does even better to get back and nick the ball back from Divock Origi on the edge of the area. More evidence of the impressive work-rate from both teams, but it is not going to bring us a goal.

We pass the hour mark with this game still goalless. I don't think we are at the stage where either team would settle for a point, but they are both keeping things pretty tight at the moment.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 59 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Some lovely intricate stuff from Liverpool on the edge of their own area just now but this game has been more about blood and thunder, and the challenges continue to fly in. Erik Lamela is the latest player to go in Craig Pawson's book, after lunging in on Alberto Moreno.

A couple of shots from distance - first a daisy-cutter from Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho, and then a palm-stinger from Kyle Walker at the other end. It was still a routine stop for Simon Mignolet though.

Shades of Sunday League here: Liverpool are on the attack but Adam Lallana was not expecting a throw from Alberto Moreno to come in his direction near the left-hand corner flag and can do little more than let it bounce off him. When it goes out of play he lets Moreno know exactly know what he thinks... and he wasn't happy.

Liverpool have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last eight games and it is looking like a big ask for them to manage one today. Spurs are stepping up the pressure and keeping them pinned back in their own half. Jurgen Klopp would approve, but he won't be enjoying watching it.

Another sniff for Spurs as Christian Eriksen bends a free-kick in from out on the left. Toby Alderweireld tries to get on the end of it but it bounces through to Simon Mignolet.

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

After a quick break while James Milner gets treatment for an injury, some sloppy stuff from Liverpool in defence as Emre Can gives the ball away on the edge of his own area.

Christian Eriksen picks it up and Spurs have men over, but his lifted pass is not precise enough to pick any of them out.

Tottenham came back into the game in the last 20 minutes of the first half - as well as those chances, they were seeing more of the ball before the interval, as shown by the graphic below.

I wonder what Jurgen Klopp had to say about it at half-time?

Good first half. Jurgen Klopp will be pleased at how Liverpool have clearly tried to implement his "gegenpressing" (high pressing basically) style but might be a little less satidfied at a lack of high quality. He has also been unimpressed with how Liverpool have been setting up to defend corners - a few of the coaching staff left over from the Brendan Rodgers era have been getting it in the ear over that.

    Danny Murphy

"A thoroughly enjoyable first half - there wasn't a moment to breathe. There was commitment and tenacity, and both managers will be reasonably happy because both sides enjoyed good spells.

"I can't wait for the second half to start."

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:33

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

A clap of the hands from Jurgen Klopp as he departs down the tunnel. I expect he will give Simon Mignolet a slap on the back for his saves in the first half when he gets back to the Liverpool dressing room.

  20. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

There will be two minutes of stoppage time at the end of the first half. Plenty of positives for Jurgen Klopp to begin with, and his Liverpool side have gone closest to scoring, but Spurs will feel they should be in front based on the number of chances created.
