"This is a good start from Liverpool, they're passing confidently, it'll be very pleasing for Jurgen Klopp. They've been the better side so far.

"It's been a good confident start from Adam Lallana especially. He's getting plenty of the ball and has seemingly been given the flexibility to swap sides of the pitch."

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

... and we almost see our first Liverpool goal under Klopp. We really should have done actually.

Emre Can gets on the end of James Milner's cross and his flick is met by Divock Origi, who sees his header come back off the angle of post and bar. The Belgian is unable to turn the rebound over the line from point-blank range and somehow Spurs survive. Somehow...

If we did not already know, it is clear early on that Jurgen Klopp kicks every ball from his technical area. Tackles are applauded, corners met with a clenched first - and he has a whistle that puts him up there with the great Premier League managerial whistlers of the past such as Andre Villas-Boas and his Anfield predecessor Brendan Rodgers.

Kenenth Gyang: The neutrals are all rooting for Liverpool today. Kloppmania.

Alphabet bands: Might regret this but I'm gonna say it. The appointment of Klopp will be the absolute making of Lallana.

Kyle Utterson: Tough game for Liverpool today made harder with all the injuries. I think Spurs will be too strong.

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool continue to press. Some neat interplay sees Philippe Coutinho escape down the left but there is no-one in the middle to get on the end of his hoisted cross. Tottenham struggle to clear their lines, before play is stopped for a late James Milner tackle on Nacer Chadli.

Still, that was promising for the Reds.

Liverpool's first counter-attack of the Jurgen Klopp era sees Lucas release James Milner into space with a lovely ball. He tries to play in Adam Lallana, running in diagonally from the left to the opposite by-line, but Toby Alderweireld is across to block his cross.

No big entrance from new Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp - although he was greeted by a huge number of photographers. He gave the travelling fans a long lingering look and returned to his seat. Was out of it inside a minute, though, and is now standing in his technical area.

"Can Liverpool get enough of the ball high up the pitch to cause Liverpool problems? I'm not so sure, looking at the Spurs line-up. There is so much energy, legs, and enthusiasm in Mauricio Pochettino's side.

    "Can Liverpool match that?"

"I have seen three or four Tottenham players joking about how tough their pre-season was. That's because Pochettino likes to play high-tempo football, and so does Klopp. But the difference is Liverpool haven't got the right type of players. Give it a year and they might do."

"It's the first time an appointment of a manager in the Premier League has been praised universally, but it's a tough start for Jurgen Klopp today.

"He's down to bare bones, with kids like Connor Randall who've never played in the Premier League on the bench. Joe Gomez and Danny Ings have already suffered bad injures, and Daniel Sturridge is out today too. The revolution, if you want to call it that, is going to take a while to start happening."

  20. Excitement, pressure, opportunitypublished at 12:32

    Tottenham v Liverpool (12 45 BST)

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BT Sport: "I feel excitement, I feel the pressure, I feel the opportunity.I feel it’s a bit colder here than in Liverpool, but everything is prepared and of course we are waiting for the first whistle."

On his first week in charge: "It was a little bit of a strange situation; normally you won’t change a manager with 12 points. But yeah, there is enough confidence, it is not a very easy situation, but when we are together we only work. We only had three exercises together, but for the moment it’s enough. We want to be active, to show we are ready to change a little bit. We still have to work a little longer together but we have to take the shape we are in today, it’s not a problem."

On Daniel Sturridge’s injury:"It was only a little contact with Jordon Ibe in training and there is a little bit of swelling so we don’t want to risk it. There is no problem, we have a striker, and we can change it."
